Finally someone who can show folks how to make a simple box. Were not making custom designer cabinets here. If you could post the measurements and screw sizes 👍
@ruannaude81978 ай бұрын
I followed your way and built 5 great boxes. Changed one thing. I put the boxes together as full width at 12 inch wide then after glued and nailed. When i cut the finished box down to the width of 9 and 3/4 it was easy. Then i use the cut off pieces that are already the right size for lids or inner cover or base board with minor modification. I hope my explanation makes sense

They would also make good feeder shims for winter feeding or pollen patties in the spring and fall.

I call it a 'pilot hole' to keep it from splitting. I know the bees don"t care, but show a little woodworking know how. Sorry, don't mean to be critical
@missourivalleyarms4264 Жыл бұрын
I know it's an extra step, but if you predrill the screw holes in your handles- they won't split on you. Great job on a simple box, I'm looking to get into bees and this was the best box video out there. THANK YOU.

That is the best way to own bee equipment MAKE IT. You can make 3 for the price of one and its better built ~ Mine are 15 years old and still like new ~ Those finger joint hive bodies are JUNK! They rot at the finger joint and there junk What i do is glue them up butt em up and set them where there square, in clamps. Next day drill hole and screw them up, Then they go to paint > The best way to screw them is set them down on the ground where you can use pressure for a better fit on the head and screw down with a drill and finish off hand screw > That way you don't screw the head way down into the wood

And is that a queen excluder sitting against the wall on your work table ? Put the thing in a safe place where the wires can't be bent, making it useless, (which they pretty much are, even brand new)

I see everywhere hives are built with the handles on the sides. Which has everyone lifting boxes protruding long ways out from them. It makes sense to me to have them on the front and back. This keeps the weight closer to your body. Your hives look pretty good. Are you going to paint or dip🍺🍺

Yes ..I'll caulk all the city end and cracks..putty the screw holes and then two coats of paint.

That titebond. I saw a semonstration where a gsntleman PROVED that glue was stronger than the wood. Glued some boards together an a couple different configurations, leth them set up and them pulled them apart a couple different ways. They all failed through the wood fibers NEXT to the glue, but not the glue itself. I know a guy that uses hard wood and he said he's never had the glu fail. When theres ever a failute, it's a weak point in the grain of the wood.
@reapersridge79929 ай бұрын
I think I've seen that also. It's definitely a Tight Bond.

Oh, come on, my bro-- make those box joints on the ends of the pieces. It is not that hard to do and they will last longer than 3 yrs. A table saw with dado (day-do) head and holder jig is necessary, but easy to make and worth doing.

The fancy cut out handles is done with a circular saw on a jig table >> kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5K6g52mf5qZZtk Reason i quit putting handles on them is, cause of storage
@reapersridge79923 жыл бұрын
I've seen that done but just to save time and it serves the purpose well I just use handles...for the moment...may try that at a later time tho. Thx Super Bee!
@426superbee43 жыл бұрын
Either way will work ! The reason i went the cut out handles is, storing the boxes. It fast and not hard at all, with the jigs ! > it also cuts down the use of more wood, glue and screws < I made a table to, to set the boxes in and cut the handles out USE SOME JUNK WOOD. TO GET THE FEEL OF IT and how it works. Then you be like me! ITS ONLY WAY TO FLY savings is wood, glue, and screws Then can use the dust for a floor sweep. Just add some oil>> also look at the price of screws, glue and wood Now ! OMG it tripled in price
@reapersridge79923 жыл бұрын
@@426superbee4 good point. I may have to make a jig now.
@426superbee43 жыл бұрын
You will be happy with it ~ I PROMISE Just use some junk wood to get the fill and fine tune it angle of the blade and depth. I put a mark in the middle of the jig where i know its center. Mark my lines on the box and the center. slap that puppy on it > all the table does is gives a comfortable height and helps hold the box in place > with 2 ~ 2x4s to hold it in place
