You can achieve anything you want to. It just takes patience and dedication to the task. 'Scale modelling' is a good way to develop those attributes. I started scale modelling when I was 7 years old. I'm now in my 70s - and still modelling. 🤣 I left school at 17, year 11. I've never attended university. In my life I've worked in many roles - railway clerk, floor finisher, plumber's mate, builder's mate, wharehouseman, senior IT business analyst and systems designer for various govt departments and several prominent 'world banks' and now teacher of English as a second language. The only thing that stops us achieving what we're capable of is our own self-doubt.

I've made so many twisted wire trees for my career in professional modelling that my fingertips start to hurt watching this! It is very time consuming but the results are quite gratifying. A variety of materials can be used for the foliage, and the ones we used most were Woodland Scenics' Polyfiber, stretched to a point of near invisibility, and "leaves" from Noch. These are instantly available, which is necessary in commercial work, and those who are daunted by the production process of your innovative foliage might want to experiment with them. Nonetheless, that's some beautiful work, OP.

Thank you for watching! I just started modeling with a few small projects I had in mind. I feel that to have a beautiful and realistic work, you need to do it carefully. I have no thoughts of doing large or commercial projects. Anyway thank you for your comments, I will think about this. Have fun and health!

I think a lot of hobbyists are daunted by the beautiful work displayed on YT, especially if they want a forest of trees that are landmarks in their modelled area. (Thinking of a model railroader I know!) We all have to go as far as we are comfortable, and you make these beautiful things, which are at the top! I wouldn't suggest you do otherwise.@@Silent_Hands

Coming back to this vid to get the url to recommend it to others I wanted to mention adapting them to wargaming. Once finished, they are on the delicate side needing custom boxes to protect them. They can also be much protected with light dustings of hair laquer. Don't spray it at them, use individual light coats sprayed above them and allowed to drop down onto them. Let each layer dry thoroughly and then repeat, we used eight layers/mistings for the best results but I think a few more wouldn't hurt. Even allowing this they do shed over time but the fibre base becomes surprisingly resilient and the scatter can be retouched every ten or so games for a couple of minutes a tree at most. Well worth the efforts
@Silent_Hands
@Silent_Hands Ай бұрын
Thank you so much, you can use hairspray to spray the foliage as many times as you like, that will keep them attached better. Over time, some of them will fall off, looking like old leaves lying on the ground :))

While I do think the trees look amazing and there are some cool new ideas in this video, I wish you did give us a little bit more detail on materials used. Like "what was that thing at the start of the video", "what is the exact ratio of gypsum powder, pva and water", "what exact 'spray' did you use for the base to stick" and the like.
@Silent_Hands
@Silent_Hands 9 ай бұрын
I used hairspray to set the base for the model. Gypsum powder you just need to add a little water and add PVA glue, stir well. They should not be too dry or too watery to achieve best adhesion. Thank you!
@trueaussie9230
@trueaussie9230 7 ай бұрын
If you mean the 'thing' that was sliced open to provide strands of copper wire, basic logic says it was a piece of 'stranded' electrical cable - ie electrical flex, eg as used on a bedside lamp. When one knows the ingredients for a particular 'specialised' material one needs to experiment to find one's own prefered 'exact ratio'. Trial and error - the best teacher. 😉😊 It's not as if one would be mixing and wasting large volumes of expensive materials.

@trueaussie9230
@trueaussie9230 7 ай бұрын
Why 'buy' when, with a little imagination, inventiveness and creativity, one can CREATE. If one wants to / is happy to 'buy', just 'buy' a tree - or an entire diorama. For most modellers I've ever known, the 'end product' is less 'satisfying' and 'enjoyable' than the creative path one takes to it. However, when one lacks the skills and / or tools to 'create', it becomes necessary to 'buy'. Few model railroaders have the skills and / or tools to build a scale working steam engine - although some do.

Great work im crafting trees based on this vid. Whats the ratio of powder/glue/water?
@Silent_Hands
@Silent_Hands 2 ай бұрын
Congratulation. There are no clear ratios for this, I do them based on observation and feel. As you see, they are not too solidified or too diluted, as long as they adhere well to the surface of the copper wires. Do it slowly, adding a little bit at a time until it meets the requirements.
