@StudioFabricana6 жыл бұрын
Hi Sewing by Mrs. Buitenbeentje, sorry, we didn't show on the sewing machine what the stitches were set at since each machine is different. When you attach the elastic you will want to use either a 3-step zigzag or a wide zigzag stitch. It doesn't really matter which one as you will be topstitching the elastic down in the next step.

Thanks for showing how to line the costume in such a straightforward way - I'll definately try this but if I could please ask one question about the stitching near the crotch? Around 4:55 min on your video you show the lining stitched at shoulders, side seams and crotch before you've turned the suit right sides out. The side and shoulder seams are lying flat as sewn, but the crotch looks as if you've turned it before sewing. Is this the case or is it just how it appears from the viewing angle. Are all the seams sewn the same way when lining, or does the crotch get sewn differently?
@StudioFabricana5 жыл бұрын
Hi Bev. At that point in the video it does look the crotch has been turned already but it just is sitting strange in the camera view. If you lay your pieces together as shown starting around the 2:35 mark (and also shown pinned together at about 3:14 min) you should have no problem. Hope this helps! If not, please don't hesitate to ask more questions. Happy Sewing!

StudioFabricana Two questions.... why not use clear elastic , which is safe for swim wear (clorine)? Second, when you quarter the elastic is there a reason you "pin" where the elastic been joined? The joined area should be suffice.
@StudioFabricana7 жыл бұрын
Hi Geraldine, great questions! 1) Clear elastic or even the straight rubber type could also be used for swim wear. The type of elastic we used in the video is a 'swimwear' elastic that is also safe for chlorine. 2) When we quartered the elastic we placed a pin at the join point so we remember which side of the join we used for matching as we actually used the 'side' of the join, not the middle to match with. Hope this helps!

awesome video!! how to add padding to it?
@StudioFabricana8 жыл бұрын
+Janette0220 Normally any padding is added to another layer on the inside of the swimsuit. You would need to cut and sew in an extra layer of lining for the front of the swimsuit that goes from the top of the suit, to a few inches below the bottom of the bust area. You would then purchase some bathing suit friendly bra cups (from your local fabric store) and stitch those onto the extra layer by hand in a few places. Happy Sewing!
@Janette02208 жыл бұрын
+StudioFabricana Thanks a lot for the advise! I got this vintage swimsuit from my mom in the 80s?! and the bra cups are too old and need to be replaced. I will attempt to do it with your suggestion, it sounds complicated x.x hopefully i won't ruin it.

I cannot find the elastic cutting 😢guide for the digital Butterick pattern anywhere!!!!
@myleshurtubise94202 жыл бұрын
Hi! Sorry, I don't have the pattern any longer. If it helps, you can use your body as a guide for the leg openings. Make sure that the elastic is fairly tight as it will stretch as you sew it to the suit. The neckline and armholes are tougher. You can use the pattern as a guide. With a soft measuring tape, measure the neckline and armholes. Then reduce that measurement for the elastic. I would suggest reducing at least 1" for the armholes and 2" for the neckline. This is a rough guide, but hopefully this will help.
@rachelfagerburg16957 жыл бұрын
Great video! But I'm a little confused on how the hidden seam with the lining works. Can someone explain this to me please?
@StudioFabricana7 жыл бұрын
Hi Rachel, it all has to do with layering the pieces before you sew. You want to layer your pieces on a table in front of you- Front piece right-side up, back piece right-side down and then your front lining right-side down (if it has a visible right side). Then you pin and sew your sideseams, shoulder seams and crotch seam as shown in the video. By layering your pieces this way it keeps all of these seam allowances sandwiched between the lining and outside bathing suit pieces (so it won't be directly against your body when you wear it) Hope this helps!

how do you add skirted swimsuit :3 i like those
@StudioFabricana9 жыл бұрын
ThirdDevision If you wanted a skirt, my suggestion would be to make an elasticized waist skirt separately (you would still want to make it out of swimwear fabric) or you may want to look for a sewing pattern that has the attached skirt as part of the pattern. It is harder to add a skirt to a basic one piece swimsuit pattern as you have to add an extra seam, seam allowance, play with shaping of this seam etc. Hope this helps!

Instead of sewing can we use the no sew glue that u have to iron?

@StudioFabricana9 жыл бұрын
TiFFerzZehNiNjA You would want to add some elastic to the hip area (usually a 3/4" or 1" wide). You would want it to be a few inches smaller than your waist measurement (at the point where you will wear the bottoms) and you can attach it the same way we do the other elastic (shown starting around the 5:30 mark in the video. Hope this helps!

Can you send a link to download the swimsuit pattern?
@StudioFabricana5 жыл бұрын
We were just working from a simple one piece bathing suit pattern and unfortunately don't have one available for download as we don't sell any pdf patterns. Any one piece bathing suit pattern that just has a front and back piece with no gathers should work to follow along with for this video.
@Livnbyf8th9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. A question for you, would this same technique applies if I were to use a front and a back lining? Thanks in advance.
@StudioFabricana9 жыл бұрын
Hi Corrine, if I was planning to line the whole suit, here is what I would do: 1) Sew all the body pieces together at the shoulder, side seams and crotch. 2) Sew all the lining pieces together at the shoulder, side seams and crotch. 3)Put the lining and body pieces wrong-sides together. Then attach the elastic as we did in this video (this will secure the two layers together). If you are finding the lining slipping around, you can always baste the raw edges of the neckline, armholes and legholes before attaching the elastic. The way we attached the lining in this video was to ensure a clean finish on the inside and that all the inner seams were enclosed. If you are lining the whole suit, it would be hard to attach both sides of the lining, hence the idea of sewing them separately and then attaching the two layers together as you add the elastic. Sorry for the long winded reply. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. Happy Sewing!

@StudioFabricana8 жыл бұрын
+nissi .xo It's really hard to sew any clothing that needs to stretch by hand as your seams won't stretch. That's why you need to do it on a machine with a zigzag stitch (otherwise your stitches will "pop"). Hope this helps!

Do you recommend stretching the elastic when sewing it to the openings? Or using the exact measurement
@StudioFabricana8 жыл бұрын
We cut our elastic to the lengths that our pattern called for (yes this was smaller than the measurements of the openings it would get sewn to). As you stitch the elastic down it "grows" a bit so you definitely want your elastic length to be smaller.

DON'T use a zig zag stitch on side, crotch, or shoulder seams! Use a straight stitch. The fabric will still stretch but the stitches won't.
@StudioFabricana7 жыл бұрын
Hi designs4dance, we suggest using a zigzag stitch for all the seams so the stitches don't pop since a bathing suit is intended to be snug fitting. If you are worried about the seam stretching out of shape you could stitch with a narrower zigzag or some machines even have a stretch stitch that is perfect for fitted knit garments.
