Excellent video. With a 8wt fly line. I use 5’ of 40# Mono then a blood knot to 2.5’ of 30# mono for the mid section. Then 2.5’ of 20# fluorocarbon. I know some guys use 40# mono 6’ for a butt section then a blood knot to 4’ of 25# fluorocarbon. One connection.

I do a uni to uni for joining braid to a flourocabon tippet. Its whatever you can tie quick and have confidence in

No I'm afraid that I never do. I use a blood knot so much that I can tie it without a second thought. Also if I can keep from bringing anything extra I will. But that's not to say it wouldn't work great!

So I can use any conventional mono line for building basic leader?

Correct. As a matter of fact I like to use stren monofilament and flourocabon. It like scientific anglers is a product made by 3m. So it serves to reason that there is very very little difference between the conventional fishing line and the leader material. Though I may be wrong, I very much doubt it makes any real difference.

@@LostAngler Thanks so much. I'm new into fly and the cost of Leaders is outrages. I was wondering why I couldn't just use regular mono?flouro. This really helps.

@@onemorething100 I understand completely. I have not used a leader that I haven't made myself in over a decade. And with four spools of line I haven't had to buy new line for leader in just as long. Just keep them stored in a dark place and you're good to go for years!
