I keep making one time use ones, I think it is time to build an adjustable one. thanks for sharing.

Great idea. I like that it uses the fence instead of the miter slots..makes it universal!

Thanks for a simple way to do this. Sometimes people like to over engineer these things. This one is simple enough for a beginning woodworker like me. Great job- thanks.

Thanks my good man. Long tapers on shelves are my bane. Walls are not ever very square so to be able to taper long pieces will save me a lot of stress. Right now I use my miter fence and that is not so good when you have a 48 inch piece that needs a taper from 8" to 7 5/8" over that run. I have taken to marking, cutting as close as possible but not over the line and sanding the difference.

Easy to create with scrap wood and little time. Much better than spending $20+ on one. Well done how to!

This is a good jig. I made it, but noticed the back end of the swinging fence tended to bend inward near the end of the cut. I then moved the cross piece to the back of the jig (behind the handle), which gives the fence more support. Question, how did you attach the stop block? Is it just glued on? Many thanks.
@MidwestManMountain6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you made a smart modification - good work! As for the stop block, I've got it glued on, yes. When there are enough cuts through it in time I just cut it off and clue on a new sacrificial piece :)

my question is about lengthwise can make in any length or can I just make as my table saw is
@MidwestManMountain7 жыл бұрын
It depends how you build it. I don't feel comfortable making cuts with this that are any longer than the length of my rip fence.

Your goofy look in the intro got me to watch. Ha! I've been digging through about 40 different designs for taper jigs. I kind of like the simplicity of this, however I'm not in love with not having the piece cut secure. Seems like you should be able to clamp down from the edge of the piece being cut with another piece made similar to the one clamp you do have. I might do that myself and share later if I do. It's just a thought for now. Keep up the goofiness. It sells.

That's all find and dandy, but how do you build one to cut an angle on all four sides? I've been trying to figure that out forever!
How big a angle can you gut with this. I need one for 30 degrees

So I do not have a jig saw and not really thinking about using one for small projects such as toys. Just want to be able to cut out things like the handle you made.When I buy one what is your recommendation?
@MidwestManMountain7 жыл бұрын
Well, I can tell you that I love my Hitachi cordless jig saw. Works great. I also love my ancient Black & Decker scroll saw. It's older than most of my wife's students, and it still works great. If I had to buy a new one today though I would find one with a wider and deeper base, and a better blade switching system. Haven't played around with any other scroll saws other than mine though, so I couldn't honestly steer you in any particular direction. Happy tool buying!

Hi, Great video! How would this jig apply to cutting longer pieces? Would you make the jig longer than the fence?
@MidwestManMountain7 жыл бұрын
Hi Leon, thanks for watching! To answer your question, I would recommend that you make the jig as long as you need to feel comfortable with the cut. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable cutting anything much longer than 24" with this setup. If you're trying to cut something beyond that in length, you might consider cutting it with a bandsaw or jigsaw. Happy woodworking!
@Niceman667 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the tip. The piece I ended up cutting wass 51 inches in length. Since its a finish piece I ended up cutting it by hand with a little patience. I rather play it safe and it worked well. Thanks again.

How do you set it up and use it to get the proper angle? Do you have a video for that? Thanks
@MidwestManMountain8 жыл бұрын
No video for that--it's pretty intuitive, and I show an example near the end of the video. You just slide the cutting side to the angle that you're looking to cut, put the board up to it, and run it against your fence. Happy building!
