If you replaced the pie tin bottom with a pizza screen, you could lift it off the table where the white of the flame touches the bottom of the pan. The screen will allow air to get through. If you don't have a pizza screen you could make something out of metal window screen, maybe. I am glad you documented this experiment on video. Oh, and if you clamp the lid down, it will become a pressure cooker and get really hot. Just be sure to put a relief valve.

To solve the wick problem you can use a thin stiff wire bridging the top of the candle can with a loop in the middle with the wick poking through (supported) or you can make another wick from string - it will work just as well, just let there be some pressure to hold the string. Aside from candle wax you could use in emergency a small glass jar filled 2/3 with water and topped up with cooking oil (yes) and a wick (with the wire dangling in it) (the water just saves on oil as the oil floats on top) My Chinese wife made these for lights during a power cut using jam jars. I added a foil reflector around the back of the jar to almost double the light. btw I feel your box might have more heat lined with cooking foil. If using string, different sizes will improve the flame. A great vid, Many thanks.

Hey awesome! Good work getting into a 2X mate, that's great. As for the slow cooker, we have one like that we use as a warmer. It's a ceramic dish with a lid, suspended with a wire frame, and holds 4 tea light candles. Holds about 40 sausages and keeps them warm really well.

I went to your channel to see if you had a video of it in use. I'd love to see it if you ever do. Still loving that outdoor kitchen of yours.

It might help to trim the wicks on the tealight candles before you begin cooking. And if you're interested in slow cooking, have you heard of fireless/ haybox cooking? You do your initial cooking on the stove and then put the still- hot pot into an insulated box to let it finish over the course of several hours. Haybox cooking was a big thing in the early 1900s; if I remember correctly the US Army had a whole wagon system set up for it in WW1. Thank you for sharing the results of your interesting experiment!

hey Brad, congratulations on the weight change, it ain't easy. I enjoyed the stove, I like how the pot fits down inside. I actually almost bought a thrift store toaster oven last week to make into a tea light oven for fun. I might give your stove a try. I bought a bunch of tea lights a while back at Ikea for about $2 for 100. One of my favorite channel's is keepturningleft, it is a guy in the UK sailing around England. he makes amazingly well crafted sailing videos and only gets a few thousands views. A few years ago he did a video unrelated to his channel, it was a simple DIY video on how to heat a room with tea lights, he has a couple of million views on it. LOL I hope you get similar views with your tea lights.My favorite way to cook in emergencies is with alcohol, in hurricanes I like to take the heating element off my stove and put a mayonnaise jar lid full of alcohol down below and set the pans over the alcohol flame, it works great.

Search YT for Herc Oven. It's a candle powered oven/cooker. May have some ideas for more DIY on yours. BTW, your pot is an oven. Put a trivet in it. Set a disposible pie tin or something similar on it. Bake corn bread. Bake potatoes. May have to add more candles to get higher baking temps. Just a thought, FWIW. Thanks for sharing.
@bigjohn200819838 жыл бұрын
+Oldtimer Lee I bet the rings from canning jars would work well. Most people I see do that type of baking add just a touch of water to the bottom also not sure why however.
@oldtimerlee88208 жыл бұрын
+Big John Yes, canning jar rings work well. Other options are small stones, balls of aluminum foil - any heat resistant item that will allow air circulation between the bottom of the pot and the food container. Water: Google bain marie pan for info on why water is sometimes added to a pan when baking. "Trivet" vs water also a situation of dry heat vs moist heat. Depends on recipe as to which is best.

Excellent idea. I guess I have a new project to do. Small suggestion....instead of placing the tabs under the box (which then raises the box/pot) what about cutting up the sides of the box about a 3/4" or drilling holes on the sides to make air flow. Here's another one :-)......how about placing some kind of sheet metal (inside) along the sides of the box or do you think it would become to hot and melt the wax? Gee thanks BC, now I'm thinking about building tea light stoves, like I don't have enough to do. :-)

Maybe get a saucer or plastic bucket lid or something you can set the tea lights in with a coolant like ice water. Drill a hole where you want your water level so it wont put the tea lights out and then add ice as it melts to keep the water from getting hot. Just a thought.
@BornRandy628 жыл бұрын
150 degrees is the pasteurization temperature. You can santize water by holding it at that temp for a period of time. I think 30 minutes off the top of my head. Maybe . It takes 160 degrees to melt the collagen in meat products for stewing purposes. So you have a heater that works about as well as a solar oven. Heat = cooked food
@rchopp8 жыл бұрын
Congrats on the weight loss, and a thought about the cooker platform I think if the gaps around the sides were as high as the flame you would have any wax melt problems because the heat couldn't build up at the lower level then maybe you could use more candles and achieve that elusive boil. cool experiment though. Take care
