Ive always lived this hobby,i started it myself in 2004-05 while in 4th grade. Im 28 now and still love this hobby and always enjoy when i find natural terrariums in the woods. I try to save those bottles with ferns or moss inside since i dont find them often and that makes them special to me. I guess there a half terrarium since there not corked so that in a way make bittke micro terrariums special if they survive in the wild.

I met a beautiful woman some time, 1 & 1/2 years or so ago. She had a beautiful baby girl who loved to run around parks and walk up and down the river etc. Her mom gave me two large glass jars with a terrarium in it and I managed to accidentally kill it by leaving it in the sun and never trimming the growth and accidentally leaving it open and letting the water evaporate and I attempted to water it and I drowned it. So I started building a new one, this one was going to have pill bugs and other little critters in it and I just finished it yesterday. I no longer talk to her and I miss them both so very much. All I have is 1 photo of them both and the pillbig terrarium to remember them both by. Bobby and DecDec, I still love you both, and I think I always will. This channel has helped me complete a fully self sufficient terrarium minus the wet bark chunks I feet the critters.

Hi mate, I have a question which might be dumb but i havent found any good answers. I want to build a bioactive terrarium but I live in australia where it gets extremely hot and extremely humid. Im worried this will affect the health of the terrarrium. Would a terrarrium I build here require plants and insects better aclimatised to my region? Could I need to peform more regular maintenance to accommidate its survival? Might even be very interesting to see a video someday about different setups and care for maintaing one for people in a few different climates 😊 Love ya stuff mate! Keep it up! 😁

You're an incredible source of knowledge and inspiration, and its presented amazing in longer form content. Here's a question, how would you amend a terrarium which has pretty hydrophobic soil? I made a terrarium a while back when resources were low, so a lo of coir was supplemented, and now I observe dry soil everytime I see it. Most plants are doing well, but the creeping plants are having a hard time establishing roots. Do I remake or is there a magic way to amend the substrate?

It's a real pain! I recommend top dressing with a good amount of worm castings and leaf mold, watering carefully, and crossing all fingers and toes! If this doesn't work you may have to start again

I've got a question about a closed terrarium I want to build. It's a very long glass cylinder and I want to suspend a plastic or metal mesh cylinder in its center, held in place by spokes. This mesh tube will be filled with soil, etc and hopefully start the ecosystem. Now my question, is it possible and how would you go about filling the mesh cylinder. Because I saw that you build up layers.. With this cylinder shape it's more difficult because I would like that it grows from all sides.. Thanks

Thought experiment: I've had this idea for some kind of corrosion-resistant heatsink for the top lid of my terrarium for a while now. The idea is that the moisture condenses onto the high surface area of the heatsink and drips like a slow rain instead of forming on and sliding down the glass walls of the terrarium. Good idea? Bad idea? Call me crazy? I'm curious for anyone's input.
