Great instruction on combination hand building and wheel throwing. Details are always helpful. Pulling handles and Drying pointers and tool usage very helpful.

Thanks for sharing. I will definitely try this. Also like the way you pulled the handle! When I cut ornaments from clay I lay plastic down over the clay and then cut out the shape with a cookie cutter. It gives a nice round edge and less clean up. The plastic bags I use are usually the ones from that you get over cloths returned from the dry cleaners.

Glad you found it useful! 🙂 When I am making a bunch of ornaments I also use plastic. I agree with you about less clean up and smoother edges. I guess I just forgot when doing one ornament. 😁

Taught me something new! Liked how you squeezed and made the top of the handle a little concave so that you had some extra clay to secure more firmly to the mug…..if that makes sense. Thank you! Loved the video, using the wheel to belly out and thin out the lip! Good job!

So glad you like the video and learn something! And I totally get what you're saying about the extra clay. I learned it from another potter. That's how it goes... we keep passing on tips to each other. 😁😁😁

Can you give details on how to trim the mold? My interest is in throwing mugs and then applying knit texture. Thank you, Laura Hershey
@andreaakeribpottery
@andreaakeribpottery 2 жыл бұрын
I just cut the extra edges with a scissor as close to the pattern as possible. I can't really see how you'll be able to apply the texture because you have to press pretty hard which is why I've been doing it using a slab. I think it would be hard on a thrown mug but I'm really interested to hear what happens when you try it. Please let me know!

Hi Andrea, love this video. I have a yogurt in the fridge right now that will have a "second life" becoming a rounder for my pieces. Will you give more information about the Catalyst brush? I've been looking for something exactly like that. Thanks

Thank you! And great that the yogurt cup will have a second life. 😄 I don't have the brush handy right now but I think it is a number 4 brush. The handle is long and the bristles are kind of stiff. Hope that helps!

You mentioned in another video that you worked in your garage. Do you live in a warm climate so you can use it year round? Just wondering as I am in Wisconsin . Just got into pottery and love it but have other crafting stuff in basement and no more room for clay. Oh darn. Love your videos. Please keep making them. Thank you.

I actually live in MA so not a warm climate. The garage gets to about 50 degrees so it can be pretty chilly! I have a space heater and I wear multiple layers and warm boots. It's crazy what we are willing to do for something we love. The clay and most of the glazes have been fine but I have had a few glazes form crystals when it got to 45 one winter. I am so glad you like the videos! I really should make more - but mostly it happens when I am doing something different. I am on a clay break at the moment but I will be back! and with more videos. :-) I hope you find a good place to make pots!
