In this video I show how I make hand built "flat" vase using two templates. It's a fun project where you can use lots of texture on the different parts. This technique can be applied to lots of different shapes.
It's fun to make your own texture and personalizes your pottery.
You should give it a try!

I have found that juggling with slabs that are still very soft and wet is very difficult, and it’s hard to get a neat result. I let my slabs dry out more now, and construction is so much easier.

How did you make such a perfect flat thick surface to start with? Did you purchase it like that or did you make it?

This is terracotta clay right? I made a tag with terracotta clay but it's dusty I believe in supposed to find a glaze and bake it I'm not sure I'm so new at this. Do you know if that's right that after it air drys is the next step glaze then bake in the oven? And also do you know where to find the best deal on clay and glazes? I want to do this more often.

It is a throwing stick. Normally used when making vases on the wheel that have narrow tops. I can't remember where I got this one. If you Google throwing sticks you should see a bunch in all different styles. This is a small one.
