Nice trick. If you carry fuel, it's worth it to have a Coleman (or similar lantern) that burns naptha fuel. It produces a bright light that great for camping and can easily last 10 hrs or so on a fill up. Other options include placing a tissue roll into a can and soaking it with alcohol or other fuel. Then you can wire it in place and worry less about spilling fuel. Be careful with fire!! Another way to get a torch is using birch bark pushed into a split stick. It won't burn long though. Are you trying to distill birch bark for fuel? Hard work! You can get a lot of various fuels from wood by heating it in a special cooker to separate all the various volatile components. Not something you can carry around easily though. Do you have a vid on that? let me know please as I will search it up. I like your series. thank you!

Really a great idea. I've made tine candles like this out of MRE Tabasco bottles. They burn about 75 minutes or so, but I use foil to regulate the flame height. Just poke a small hole in the foil and pull the amount of wick through it for the flame height you want. It saves A LOT of fuel this way. Keep up the great work.

Great Idea Lilly using trash as a torch. I like the rope braid, I wouldn't have the patience. I've been using cans as fire starters and cookers for years. I cut a beer can in half and fill it with gasoline and then put the wood above it in a log cabin style. It lights 100% of the time with very little effort with wet wood. When I'm hunting in the fall quite often you get soaking wet and cold and this method works quickly with less fuss. Never pour gas on the wood, in the container it burns in a controlled manner like a torch.

As a man it is frustrating seeing at least one comment from a creepy type of dude, telling if she needs company etc. It is disgusting. And then I read Lilly's comments where she doesn't pretend those guys doesn't exist yet replies in a very cool and calm way as if saying "I can see what kind of a shit you are, but you are no menacing than a small child to me.". When I see those short responses it puts a smile on my face. Awesome video again Lilly. You guys of all the bush craft videos are awesome. I hope one day I can be one of you. Ironically it seems expensive from down here though :/
@Geckuno8 жыл бұрын
Dj Ruccy First of all you don't know my stance on those comments of female users. Before you call me a "fucking mangina" whatever that is you better have some proofs to backup your claim not just assumptions. Secondly there is a huge difference between telling that someone is beautiful or cute and asking someone if they need a lover which is totally out of context of the video itself. And it is my opinion what of it to you? I didn't say that it shouldn't be done. It is not my place to say it. I said that it frustrates me. Much like it would frustrate me if I see a man hitting creepily on a girl at a bar. Or a girl on a man (I am yet to see that though) Anyway I am guessing you are fine with those guys, and maybe potentially one of them. I am sorry if you are offended by my view on how you probably are.

WHERE THE FUCK? WHERE THE FUCK did I say that I was okay with men doing these as well? What is your problem? You had this rant you worked up in your head and trying to find a place to write? How am I sexist? Did I say all men are like this? Did I say no woman is like this? Did I say it is okay when women do it? Do I have to state each behavior that is morally wrong by my standards one by one for the sake of justice before I point out one flaw? I saw something, it made me uncomfortable. I wrote about it. And now you come and pretend to know everything about me, what my ideas, opinions are. AND HOW THE FUCK IS IT RELEVANT ANYWAY? Does it make this less of a bad thing? Why would you even bring this up? You are free to pursue what is important to you and comment on it. Why use my entry for that? Do you have any valuable insights you wanna add? How about minority rights? I clearly didn't oppose it on my comment so I clearly am racist as well. You piece of ignorant waste. "Feminazi" that is your joker card isn't it? You position yourself automatically to the position of the right person by saying that word. Oh my fucking god. I have never been so angry on the internet before. Lilly, You could use spruce or pine pitch/resin in the torch. Melt it in a cast iron container over an open fire, then pour it into the Red Bull container without a wick. Light the resin and it will burn. When wanting to extinguish it, just smother it with a lid. The only concern I would have is whether the light aluminum can could hold up to the heat as aluminum melts at 1,221°F or 660.3°C? I think it would be worth the experiment though. Great job!

love the torch and well all your videos. i spent 20 years in the theatre and we used to make torches out of pretty much any can. soup cans the best. but for a torch that you can fling around a bit and not worry too much about splashing fluid. cut the top off the can and pack it full of your basic tampons(super absorbency of course)and then fill the can with fluid and let it soak in and pour off the excess if desired.the tampons swell up and hold themselves in place quite well. you can then light and have fun. we used to juggle with them and all sorts of things. keep making the videos, can't wait for more.

I believe in the chance of having a knife while trying to survive in the woods. But the moment you run off to the store to buy some kerosene. I'm exaggerating but its a lot less survival and a lot more salvation if you have access to a Walmart. I really wanted to watch something done from scratch. I also thought that based on this title fuel could be made from red bull. Turns out she just needed a "can" Call me dumb but I felt mislead.

@death2997 жыл бұрын
can also make (or buy) an oil press if not trekking and just need the means to make fuel for such things
@Pegasus-Lounge7 жыл бұрын
you're missing my point. The way she did this video. Didn't have to be a red bull, coulda been a beer can or soda can. or just "can" Do I deserve half a million views if I did a title that said "How To Make A Torch With A Pabst Blue Ribbon Can" but all I did was fill the can with store bought fuel. I didn't even mention how the wick was also store bought. Why go through all this trouble if you have a store? why not just buy a flashlight?
@death2997 жыл бұрын
Pegasus Vapor Academy no one deserves anything nor was it misleading, "redbull can" is not "redbull" and you'll find similiar happens across the board with channels like this people don't go out and buy (or make) new stuff when they have (or have access to) a much simplier solution for instance showing how to turn animal fat into oil at camp, most would take whatever lamp they have to demonstate, not make a new light system just for the sake of the video in incidents like this (where you're trying to show a type of torch) you'd need to kill an animal (fat) or create an oil press (seeds and nuts) meaning finding something you can legally kill that time of year or buying meat and fat for the sole purpose of a video then making it into oil when there are plenty already showing you how to do such making it pretty much redudant and a time sink on her part for no new information really coming to light and why exactly make a wick? they're cheap as sin, and people that use candles regularly are likely to have plenty lying around anyway and it takes what? 5 maybe 6 minutes to find people making wicks from pretty much anything adding extra steps for the sake of being complete doesn't make alot of sense when the information is readily avalable anyway she didn't skip any steps on the actual process, and most things detailing how to maket anything involving a wick skip that since wicks are a dime a dozen and there are god knows how many ways to make them had she used a bandana to speed it up, would the response be different? she didn't make it what about bringing veggie oil (which can be made fairly simply) and using it as fuel? people are expecting everything made from scratch which takes time, and in the case of fuel requires killing (may not be legal at that time of year in her area) or spending hours collectng scraps to put together an oil press..and almost as long gathering stuff to use with it to demonstrate a torch it is an insane amount of work when there is no real need to do so

Lilly, you can make your lamp safer by taking some sponge, cutting it into small pieces to fit through the hole in the top of the Red Bull can. Fill the can with sponge. Add oil and it will be safer if it is accidentally knocked over. Safe camping!
@LoneStarPrepperOfficial9 жыл бұрын
Hi lilly! I love your channel. I have found that great natural oil for lamps is to make tallow. I go to my local butcher and ask him to save me some beef or deer fat trimmings. Put a few pounds of fat into a sauce pan and boil it down until it is all liquid. There will still be some chucks left just throw those away. But you can filter the oil out and pour it into something to make bars or blocks of tallow. It will keep for a long time and has a ton of uses. I just started my own survival/bug out channel. Check it out if you get a chance. Best Wishes, LoneStarPrepper

Just a little tip: when you cut the willow wands, cut them as close to the tree as possible, leaving it neat with no cut branches. It will allow the tree to heal it's wounds with sap. If you don't do this, you leave the tree vulnerable to infection. When you cut the tree neatly, it will also produce many more wands and branches.

Lilly, maybe to improve the torch holder, you could place a pebble down in the split shoots of the limb you pounded into the ground that way the shoots will stay open and receive the torch a little easier. Another addition to your torch could also be a bottom of an additional redbull can cut and tied with some cordage to the torch to act as a snuffer instead of trying to blow the flame out.

That's the same reaction I would have drinking red bull!! LOL I honestly don't know how people drink that stuff!!! That's a cool torch! I like the stand for it so you can leave it stationary or pick up the top and walk with it. You are very good at that stuff.

The dog rolling in the dirt was my favorite part. excellent video clip selection. Also, did you grow wings and fly after the tasty sip? Did you get energized and do a barrel roll?
