Hello : ) I am in love with this tutorial! I will definitely be using this for my victorian ballgown project. Just a few questions. What does the gathering of the tulle do? I couldn't really see on the video since the colors were so similar but wasn't sure if it was just so it would fit better. Also are you sewing the bottom of the tulle down to the bottom of the skirt or just leaving it be? And if I was to use the tulle as a crinoline and put another skirt overtop would that look normal or mess the whole thing up? Idk lol. Thank you so much
@RockstarsandRoyalty4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kiera, glad you found the tutorial helpful. Gathering the tulle creates the fullness. The tulle is just sewn at the top of each layer - the bottom isn't attached to the skirt underneath. Yes you can definitely use this method to create a crinoline. Just be aware that if the skirt you put over it is heavy it might lose some of the fullness. You can add some layers of a stiffer net underneath to help with that if necessary.

Hi, I'm a bit confused. So you have your fabric and your lining, and then you sewed your tulle to the right side of your outer fabric but then you put right sides together and sewed it to the lining? Is there any reason you cant sew your lining and outer fabric together first, then do the zipper then the tulle gathering? I'm sorry just looking for clarification
@RockstarsandRoyalty5 жыл бұрын
You can do it that way if you prefer. I keep the outer and lining layers separate while add the tulle because it's less fabric to handle while getting it all under the machine and it takes away the possibility of accidentally catching the lining as you sew the tulle layers on.
@nicolemoore21844 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this video! Is the tulle you used more so a silky tulle, or a little bit stiff? Also, do you think this sort of skirt would work with a tulle that's not the softest?
@RockstarsandRoyalty4 жыл бұрын
I used a soft tulle, the kind that wedding veils are made from. If you're using a tulle that's a bit stiffer you may need less in each layer or less layers to achieve this amount of fullness.
@Sonyanaayeye5 жыл бұрын
I didn't quite get how to handle the zipper section with the tulle. Can you please explain again?
@RockstarsandRoyalty5 жыл бұрын
You just cut the tulle at the centre back open to the length of the zip, turn under the edge, and stitch it next to the zip. You can see it in this video too, the only difference is that I sewed the zip in after the tulle layers for the dress and before I attached the tulle layers for this skirt. Hope that helps. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6XNkpmBqcSlaLs

Hi, may I know the difference if I make a full circle without cutting it into panels?
@RockstarsandRoyalty5 жыл бұрын
I use panels rather than cutting a full circle because it supports the weight of the tulle better. When you cut a full circle the weight can pull down on the parts of the circle that are on the bias and you can end up with uneven hem. It's also more economical with fabric to cut panels rather than a full circle when it's this length. Hope that helps.

In the base layer fabric, leave an opening on the back about 9 inches long, and make the waistband a bit longer so you can add a clasp or tie it as a little bow. Leave the same opening on the top layers of tulle, their fullness will hide the opening.

Did you sew the tulle on upside down then flip it down so that is more poofy or just sewed it on normally?

You can do it either way. I just sewed it on normally for this, but I do upside and flip it over to hide the stitching if I want even more puffiness or if the layer above is too sheer to hide the stitching.

I'm attempting to make a dress with a skirt like this but wanted to know, how would I attach the skirt and bodice to include a zip the goes from the skirt to the top of the bodice ? Thanks!

Just stitch the tulle layers up where the the seam allowance for the zip starts, then put your zip in after the skirt and bodice are joined.

Hi there, if you were to sew a bodice to make a full gown, at what point would you sew in a full zipper?
@RockstarsandRoyalty4 жыл бұрын
After attaching the skirt to the bodice.

is it possible to make this look nice with ribbon sewn onto the ends of the tulle while still cutting 8 separate pieces of tulle on each side? also if my petticoat has a ribbon on the ends, but the rest did not would that show and look strange?

I've not made a skirt like this with ribbon edging so I'm not sure how it would look. Perhaps you could make up a few small test pieces and layer them together and see if it works. If you make your skirt a little longer than the petticoat that would hide it and it wouldn't matter if the ribbons matched or not 🙂
