Hi Dott, it all depend on the kind of care it gets, the nature of the top cup and sometimes the time of year. It can take any where from 3 months to a year or maybe longer based on the different variables. It's also best to keep it semi shaded until it becomes established.

@growingorchidsinjamaica3 жыл бұрын
Hey Victoria, thank you so much. I water depending on the time of year and the rainfall. If it is dry I water every other day. A rule of thumb is to allow them to dry out before you water. I appreciate you watching. Happy gardening.

Do you plant them in the medium only sometimes? What do you use to spray the spikes to protect them from insect bites? Do you fertilize when they are spiking? Love love this class this afternoon Thank you for this step by step class Good evening
@growingorchidsinjamaica3 жыл бұрын
Hello Janice, Wow!! thanks for your questions let me try my best to address them all. Yes I do plant them in a medium. The towers are empty because I do not have any medium right now, but over time I will fill them up. It depend on what insect is present on the blooms I sometimes use a systemic insecticide such as Caprid. Yes I fertilize the orchids even when they are in spike. They appreciate the food as the plant uses up a lot of energy to when it's blooming. You are most welcome I'm so happy you appreciate it. Happy Easter.

New subscriber here. Very nice vandas. What kind of media did you use on the ground. God bless
@growingorchidsinjamaica3 жыл бұрын
Hey Janella, welcome to my world of orchids. Thank you so much for the sub and the kind comments. I use river stones/gravel or construction stones on the ground, after laying the ground covering. This medium I also use a lot in planting my orchids as it is very porous and orchids really likes to dry out in between watering. There is really no special formula, and therefore you may utilise what you have available to you. Thanks for watching and happy gardening.

@growingorchidsinjamaica3 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrea, I'm happy that the timing is right. Lol. Are the seedlings bareroot or are they already potted and established. Will you be making an orchid bed? Can they be placed in the full sun or you may need to acclimatize them? Let me know and then I will be better able to assist. Thanks for stopping by. Happy Easter.

The cloth you used when you make the foundation, does any cloth will do?
@growingorchidsinjamaica Жыл бұрын
Hello Less. The material is actually a kind off plastic with perforations to allow the water to pass through. You could also use carton boxes as you just need something that will prevent the weeds from growing through it while the water also passes through as well. Best wishes friend. 🥂💖

Dr do I have to used the black mesh on the ground or I can used something else apart from that.
@growingorchidsinjamaica3 жыл бұрын
Hi Winsome, You can use any form of ground covering it doesn't have to be the black one . I have seen where persons have even concreted the area, as long as you have adequate run off so that no water settles in the bed. The ground cover reduces weeds and provide a barrier between the plants and the soil.

Hello Jane, I use any fertilizer that contains Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium. In particular this comes at different balances however a 20-20-20 balance is usually a good one. This 20% Nitrogen, 20% Phosphorous, and 20% Potassium. I really do hope this helps.
