Hi Don it's just a piece of steel inside the tube for support. If you don't put that piece in the tube will collapse under vibration and get out of the lathe witch is very dangerous it append to me twice before i put the support and that is why i made my cutter very long to make sure my pieces couldn't get out. You just have to make a piece that fit very snugly inside the tube and you will able to tighten your pipe so it won't fly out i hope this help you
@raymonddemers376811 жыл бұрын
Thank you The knife is a simple piece of mid steel and it as to be round or else it will cut the aluminum instead . You only have to push the aluminum not cut it. The important thing is the filler piece inside the tube to be able to tight it to the machine if you don't put it, it will scrap the tube and it's very dangerous Ray

I too, wonder why everyone takes a chance these days with "any" gloves or jewelry on. I don't even want long sleeve shirts on in case the back of my arm gets too close. Plus I see these rubber gloves on so many mechanics. I worked in the car dealers for well over a decade, and my hands were always able to be washed. I also still had my hands to take home with me everyday.

Thx for the video....I tried this last nite and was only able to make a bell as it wld not curl over. I tried using a round bar at an angle and then a 1" flat piece cut at an angle and all I cld make was a bell. Do you set the tool at the angle you want? How does it curl over? I was only running at 740 rpm and was using a 1" tube that i bored the thickness down to 2mm. Any insight would be awesome!

How much for a 2 1/4” ID ( on the straight part ) aluminum velocity stack . I got a carb and bought a velocity stack and it won’t fit right. I can make a flange on the mill and then weld on the part that you make me .. well if you can make me one , or even feel like it ! Lol ... don’t care what radius it is or exact length but like 3-4” long would be good. Just trying to keep busy .. I hate being locked in the house.

Bonjour RaymondD'abord super boulot.

hi silk no i am not a machinist just a hobbyist having fun week-end time and building myself an air intake for my car (See my other video) this is why i did it and no i don't do it for other i have to much work with my company and don't have the time as for the machine i use a smithy's it is not expensive and it's a 3 in 1 it does lathe mill and drill

Great video, but for the love of all that is holy... TAKE OFF THE GLOVES. Even a "little" lathe like that one can twist your arm off in less time than it takes to realize what is happening. Safety lesson aside, can you post a picture of what the tool you used looks like? Maybe just a shot of that on your bench?

@raymonddemers37689 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris in order to be successful is used vibrant performance 2 in aluminum tubing for this if it is to tick it won't work and no less than 1/2 inch radius if you want to be successful it is metal spinning and i didn't invent anything here there is plenty of video on the net about metal spinning let me know if you are successful with the new tube . best regards

hello you need to speed up your lathe and heat it up with the yellow propane tank the other type of propane does not have the temp required to do this also my tube was .065 thick and the radius was max 1/2 inch best regards,
