If you take the 3/4" valve, disassemble like you did, then use a 1" T-Pipe, the rotary switch will fit in that very well and the handle of the valve will fit perfectly. No need to drill out the original T-pipe from the valve.

That works too, and also less work! But, it wouldn’t be the original body of the brass valve then. Personal preference! Thanks for the comment.
