How to Make a Waterproof Thumb Spica Cast

My Medicaid provider doesn’t have any waterproof casting materials. I broke my fibula 2 weeks ago and ended up traditionally casted and then lost balance in my cast and had a FOOSH and looks like I have a Scaphoid fracture and I’m gutted and the splint isn’t cutting it so I’ll likely need a cast but I want waterproof on my hand to do my hair, apply product, wash my hands and my provider said if I can find some water proofing material he’ll cast with it they just don’t carry it. I can buy aqua cast for like 50 bucks but they charge an ungodly amount for shipping because they include fiberglass. My doc has the Fiberglass but they won’t ship without it. I’m going to ask them when I go in this week if they have an exos or a waterproof splint or cast but I doubt Medicaid will pay for that either so waterproof fiberglass would be the best choice. Do you buy any chance sell just enough of the aqua cast in a situation like this? I love your videos and wish I could just come to you. All of these videos are so kind compared to the techs I’m coming across. I was trying to track down orthoneal or even delta dry but aqua cast seems to be easiest to get ahold of but no one near me Carrie’s it in stock and the couple providers I called that carry it don’t take Medicaid and won’t sell me casting materials without being a patient but their new patient exam is $300+ and I don’t need the fiberglass just some sort of water proof padding. That’s it. It’s ok if you say no. Like I said I’m willing to pay I’m just trying to think outside the box

As a thank you- I did some research and found that they sell 2 roll packs (or) 3 roll packs w/ safety tape of 2 in & 3 in padding on "amzon", w/minimal shipping fees. Another cheaper option, would be the cast covers/guards as well, but I think that 1st option would work w/your situation & budget, if your provider concurs. I fractured both my radius and ulna I'm curious why a spika split or cast . I wouldn't let them cast me either I have a spika splint and it is the most uncomfortable thing I have ever worn. Not my first time fracting same wrist. In this Florida heat nope no cast without water proof cast. I don't understand why more orthopedic Drs don't have this available for patients that will even pay out of pocket for the waterproof rolls ?
