How to make a Wind On Leader

Wind on leaders are notorious for pulling through so here is how to make a fail safe wind on for day time dropping swordfish thanks to tackle guru Rush from Compleat Angler.

Nice technique. Haven’t seen the Lupe done like that and will and that in my next windon. I have found that if you don’t have a pipe needle for the line you can cut the leader line and taper the end the quickly heat the tip just to round it off. it goes better pushing up the hollow core. And a reverse bait needle to do your loupe. Just don’t be in any hurry.

Couple of suggestions: Please zoom in on what you're working on. Secondly, when you get to the end of your floss serve, instead of a full hitch and tighten by pulling, make a loop and go through 3 or 4 times with your tag end - then unwind the loop in the oppositie direction and pull tight on the tag end. That effectively buries the end of the serve 3 or 4 turns from the end. Does that make sense?

Isn’t just a normal leader like leader on a spinning reel

Rizzuta finish is a bit neater and more secure finish. Other than that it all made sense to me. Not the video for beginners to learn though.

Some of the tazzy sword gang use 200-400lb fluro for swords…

I don’t think it would matter at that depth as fluro is affected by light

@@almcglashan I think they like it more for abrasion resistance as it is tougher than mono, I’ve never busted off 300/400lb mono before, but apparently they have, and don’t now they switched to fluro.

@@almcglashan me either(I’m still yet to land one) but apparently some of the tazzie boys have had their issues with mono leaders, and the Fluro has solved their issues, and 200-400lb can be bought in bulk quite cheap from commercial fishing suppliers.(I got 1000m of 200lb for $100, so now I use it for everything :)
