You should get a dial indicator for your metal lathe for getting things to turn around perfectly

This is awesome. I've been excited for this video for a while, as I'm going to try to draw inspiration from your project and make my own lathe!

Damn... you are one skilled chap... You're welding however leaves much to be desired. Keep practicing, watch the puddle, and when weaving like you were, hold at the top and bottom and spend less time over the middle. Although for a small joint like you were doing there, you really just need a stringer bead. Hope that helps. Thanks for the fascinating video!

i would say that if you want a super tight fit for the bearings then drill out the holes like .5-1mm too small and pop the bearings in the freezer overnight so they shrink and slide right into the holes and then expand when they warm up. same can be done for the rod to fit it into the bearings.

Hello Artof, Nice to see your welding has come along well. This is such a good project to design and build. I know that you could probably get some sort of wood lathe from Ebay, but this way suits your talents much better. Keep up the good work (and your studies too!).

Sirusdark oh ok, i'll become an astrophysicist even though I haven't a serious maths degree or anything else required. I think that attitude about anybody being able to achieve anything is total BS, certain things require high intelligence or high physical fitness or any number of attributes that not all of us mere mortals have
@arathduiliath9074
@arathduiliath9074 8 жыл бұрын
As an astrophysicist graduate I have to say, it's not hard just tedious. Most physics can be done with just calculus and no one is preventing you from doing simple problems in free textbooks, that's how we nerds learn.

arath duiliath Some people have the want and attitude to do these things, but the vast majority don't. Just think, if everyone could be a scientist or professor type, shit would never get done. You need some people in society to build the buildings, roads etc etc that these more academic types design. Same reason why not all people are beautiful, we need us ugly fuckers so stuff gets done
@arathduiliath9074

I don't think you realize how many things are designed, created and applied by scientists and engineers, do not assume that academia and societal roles are mutually exclusive unless you want to give up your computer, data storage, modern cars, GPS, medicine and food.

Forjam everything has a chance of failure, building your own drill press is far more likely to end with shards of metal in your face, but a commercial one failing explosively is not impossible

The rod on the the headstock is too big thats bad because how much bigger more lateral force in the bearings actually the best scenario would cut a hole and a thread just on the front bearing
