This is a great wood project book kzbin.infoUgkxkPIWb22DigCqxmlXerCyUF4HCl6eSU2L . Most of the projects use the pallet simply as a source of reclaimed wood not as a recognizable pallet so even if you didn't have a pallet you could make these projects with any reclaimed (or even new) wood. The instructions are excellent. The style is charming and would work with lots of different decor. There are quite a number of projects that involve tiling of teh wood pieces which is a really cool idea and can produce beautiful pieces when working with aged wood.

With as many cross sections you did, I expected a more varied grain pattern in the end, but this project came out awesome all the same. I love watching you use your skew, because that is one lathe chisel I was never able to use effectively back when I was a "junior high aged master lathesman" (age adjusted of course). After clearing the bulk of material with my gouge, my go to for smoothing, even on a straight run, was the roundnose. My instructor was amazed at the smooth lines I could maintain with the roundnose and called me the most skilled tool man he had ever seen, and then laughed at me for not being able to effectively use the proper tool for the job...a skew lol. I have not turned a piece of wood in almost 40 years, but this brought back a lot of fond memories of all the lamps, bowls and other things I made in my early teens.

mastery of the wood lathe. I like the idea of beading to hide the joints but would personally seek to use only small sections of the bead, the resulting large smooth wood areas I think would look better. And use of different size beads would break up the pattern, add some interesting visual change. Even an embossed pattern along a joint may look real good. I am thinking a form of knurling tool.
@JackMackWoodturning2 жыл бұрын
I concur, however the customer wanted a fully beaded vessel… it is quite a shame really.
@rl21092 жыл бұрын
You also maxxed out the potential that was hidden in the log! Nice work in matching the grain in the re-assembly! The beaded finish was genius! As you can see, I'm catching up on your older content! ...and BTW, I'm watching from Crane Hill, Alabama! Keep doing what you love!

I love how sometimes, the fps and rpm lines up and it looks like the wood is standing still or glitching out. Funny story, before i started turning, i looked up videos and it always looked like the wood was rotating super slow. First time actually turning freaked me out on how fast it was going lmao ah those innocent days
