In this video I show you how to easily make an eco friendly diaper cover (soaker) thrifting transformation that will be cute and unique for your baby. Thrift flip a wool sweater into a diaper cover that will last and last through multiple babies and is biodegradable once it is no longer useful.
The video got a bit long, so there is a second video about how to wash and lanolize.
Visit our website and store: www.robbinsnestweaving.com/store
The pattern used can be found here: katrinassqs.blogspot.com/2007...
Some of the tools that I used to make the diaper covers:
Self healing cutting mat: amzn.to/3M0AXrY
Rotary cutter: amzn.to/3M2doiA
Singer Sewing Machine - Heavy Duty 4452: amzn.to/3K0slQI
100 piece sewing clips: amzn.to/3JUFfzO
Pure lanolin: amzn.to/3jZeeAO
Eucalan: amzn.to/3vAhhVi

Thanks for this video sew-along! It's so helpful to see how it goes together when you're not using a serger or even a fancy sewing machine. Gonna go felt up a thrifted sweater! :)

Thank you so much! I’m pretty new to sewing as well. I probably mentioned that in the video. Baby / little kid stuff is nice and non intimidating! If you mess up a little, they don’t care or notice! ❤️

I'm a quilter/seamstress and I think you did lovely. You're more skilled than you think. If you want to get better at sewing watch sewing videos on KZbin that's how I learned. Thanks for this video, I'm going to the thrift store soon and going to pick out some handsome sweaters. I'm pregnant with my first, planning to cloth diaper

I saved her wool cover pattern years ago, but never tried it - this video has given me the encouragement I needed! Love how honest you are (that you were afraid to see but did it anyways). Easy to follow, great video!

I love the idea of upcycling old 2nd hand sweaters! currently I'm using disanas knitted pants on my baby and i really like it a lot, even tho it took quite a few lanolizings (is that even a real word?) before it felt cured enough. Over in Scandinavia we have the manymonth pants to that I've tried but my baby is right now in a short and very chubby size so once she outgrows the disansa pants ill probably have to sew something more form fitted for her, this pattern will probably be quite right for us. Thank you for the tutorial and the idea of up cycling sweaters as well as modifying leg sizes

Do you think it would work to just double up a thinner wool to make this cover? Or would that not work? I'm going to give making these a try I'm just worried that some of the wool I have would be too thin.
@Rebecca.Robbins
@Rebecca.Robbins Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure. You can try washing and drying your wool a couple of times to make it thicker, that might help. You should try it and see how it works out! Let me know if you do, I would love to hear how it turns out!

I managed to make two. One of which I doubled the thinner sweater to make and both were successful!! Thank you for your video! I am hand stitching because I don’t have a sewing machine. But these have been a life saver for at night. We aren’t waking up wet anymore!
