I've watched tons of videos about viewport optimization or killing render times, but this particular video is by far the most informative video about optimization. Especially the one that combines "low poly objects with high res textures"... Thats something new. Glad that I've come across this video.

I work in CPU so these tips are really useful for me, Thanks. Some tips I would like to add: --> You could decrease the resolution of the render for better speed, it might be useful for test renders. --> In the render settings, in the film tab, you can check transparent. So it wouldn't render the background. --> You can decrease the values in the light paths tab(in render settings) --> You can render parts of the objects and then combine them using Blender's compositor and View layers (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWm6hmuYmMiekLM)

how did you get that shading pie menu to pop up? letter z. :( there's a billion shortcuts in blender. I got the render window now but I don't have a black box representing my camera view. it's just all gray or black depending how I color my world node. Why do I not see the limit/edge of my camera view? thx

It seems like silly advice, but I didn't realize just how limited I was by my computer until I upgraded. I was working on a base model iMac with integrated graphics and it worked but I was constantly hitting a wall whenever I tried to do anything beyond the most basic stuff. Having a decent computer that can chew threw heavy scenes is like being able to breathe again after being underwater. It opens up so many possibilities. Totally worth it if you can manage.

Wow, this makes since. I can’t wait to apply this on my slow computer. I could never understand why it took so long to render out anything using a big render view port on my own computer until now. Thank you for making this useful tutorial. Explaining, your process, and thoughts on making a better experience using Blender. They should make your layout into a Production layout as a menu opinion button you can press, in Blender!

Turbo Tools V4, its a paid add-on, it reduced my render times significantly. Heavy scene, high high quality, 1 frame was 3.5 minutes before, 35s after, and thats on ultra settings. I am not affiliated in any way, and was always very skeptical about such things, but I am very impressed 😮

Example is you can optimize 2K, 4K, 8K texturs for only close ups renders. There is no need to have thousands of 4K textures a few feet away that the camera can't even focus thus its pixelated by the light glare for example. Speaking of the UV Map png photos layed on an street sign you know. Literally no need if the camera is a few feet away can't even see it well in dark conditions as well

Hi, great tutorial, I completely agree on how having a slow gpu teaches you how to keep your scenes as optimized as possible. One question, I see you have your render engine set to cycles yet you manage to have a nice bloom in your viewport yet I haven't managed to find how. Could you tell me how? Great channel btw!

I bought my GPU at the worst possible time but I don't regret it because it literally paid itself off straight away from the time it saved me on the commissions I was doing. I know not everyone has that opportunity but for anyone making money from art I can't recommend it enough.

Making changes to your GPU really depends on your motherboard, CPU, pc case, cooling and power supply. It will be a big mistake to think that you can simply take out your current GTX GPU and replace it with an RTX 3090. It's going to be a more costly endeavour.

I don't think it actually helps using denoising on while rendering the viewport and letting it start from sample 1. Because than it has to render and denoise at the same time. Your wasting computing power

Blender is either GPU or CPU dependent on render choice, a GPU wouldn't bottle neck with renders this is much more common in gaming though.

Yes it does, you have a certain amount of Bram. The more data and especially hi res textures you throw into render you eat away all that VRAM.
