That's perhaps the simplest explanation of why I should care about phase, and how to address those concerns with a single slider. And the ability to hear it is great. Outstanding tip.

Go to chord? Yeah. I just don't really know what the name is. It's a basic open C shape, but root on the 8th or 10th fret instead of the 3rd. Sounds even better tuned down to D standard.

Love this. About to install an Ableton trial and have a go at some ambient cinematic stuff for the first time, and this is exactly the kind of stuff that inspires me! Now to find some good Ableton intro vids…

This is... stunning. Yeah, that's the right word to describe this track! You're an inspiration of all those people that like to produce Ethereal Epic Music! Do you sell/ upload your music to a music (streaming) service?

Hey, absolutely love the video. Im trying to get better at creating this style on ableton. I've copied this tutorial with the same plugin settings, but I can't seem to recreate that ambient sound you have in yours. Mine sounds more like a horn (for lack of a better description). I really want to know how you've made it sound this way, I can describe it but yours sounds significantly more clean, almost like there's another plug in or background absence you've added. Hope that makes sense, all good if my question doesn't make sense! cheers :)

A better way I've just thought of describing it is you're sounds more like a beautiful organ, and I absolutely love the sound but I can't seem to recreate it with the same plugins and settings!

Thanks for the compliment and for watching, Josiah! Without seeing your setup I can’t point exactly to what it is. Also with regard to extra plugins, this early in the creation phase, there likely would not have been anything on the master buss. If there was, just and EQ and compressor. Unfortunately I don’t remember if I had anything there. My suggestions of things to tweak based off of your description to continue building your tone: 1. Oscillator shapes check and make sure that the shapes are not too aggressive - like you said, “clean tone” is what we’re going for 2. Filter cutoff - to tame harsh frequencies. 3. Make sure supermassive has a high enough mix- you really want to wash out that original sound. - I guess 3b is make sure the density is up on your super massive too. 4. filter setting on your supermassive plugin. - same as previous filter. 5. And then if all else fails, use a graphic EQ to find the “core” of the “horn” sound to figure out what it is you DON’T need - then remove it. Hope that helps! I wish I could give a more specific fix. Good luck and ENJOY THE JOURNEY, Josiah!! 🙂👍🏽 Let me know what you find! That would be valuable to others for sure!

@josiahshillabeer2112 absolutely! Be sure to post back when you dial it in!! I’m curious to hear what it was! ALSO - pro tip for along the way - take notes on what you like and don’t like as you are working to find your sounds. As you take notes on it, you’ll not only learn hiw to make the sound you’re looking for, but you’ll also learn the aspects that you are not generally drawn to. Thereby giving you a shortcut for the next time you’re looking to make a sound or tone - even if it isn’t exactly related! If you find “I see a pattern of 300hz frequencies muffling my synth” you’ll know that as a data point going in! Data points = efficiency Hope that’s helpful! Enjoy the journey!

Really good video you definitely reminded me to update my supermassive vst :D I've been wondering the whole time why your midi notes have different colours or am I trippin out
@GlennThomasTech2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Johnny! Yeah - every time I pull up Supermassive, I’m reminded just how awesome it is! With regard to midi notes… I changed my Ableton theme to a slightly different color tone - perhaps that’s it! Hey also, if you like these washy big kind of tones, I released some samples that you can pick up free if you’d like! Use the code KZbin to get the “samples bundle” free! glennthomastech.gumroad.com/l/AmbientLoFiBellPad If you get the pack, let me know what you think! Thanks for watching, Johnny!

Hi what are the bare essential mixing/mastering plug ins in your opinion. I’m quite new.
@GlennThomasTech2 жыл бұрын
Oh man- that’s a tough one, Andrew! Assuming I could use stock DAW reverb and delay, and that I could only pick three 3rd party plug-ins to use it would have to be either: $$$: 1. Fabfilter Pro Q 3 2. Fabfilter Saturn 2 3. Fabfilter Pro L 2 Or $ 1. Waves Scheps Omni Channel 2. Waves F6 3. SIR Audio Standard Clip But quite often I simply find myself using a good number of stock plugins! Hope that helps! Happy to answer any questions you might have!
