Do you just trial and error until you reach the sound you're searching/recreating? I sometimes just settle with a sound if it takes too long to be satisfied with the end result

Yeah mainly, i often watch videos on how the original synths worked to get the right combination of waves and effects but its mainly trial and error! Also nothing wrong with settling and coming back to improve it later, no point slowing yourself down when you're in the zone!
