Here we're making a fabric tote handbag, I know I usually work with leather or synthetic leather but today making the exception for those who work with Ankara or Aso-oke or just fabrics in general.

New subscriber!!! Lovely video. After cutting the exact measurements like you posted, you still need to add the 2cm allowance for folding in or that is factored in your initial measurements? Cos you mentioned that we should always add 2cm to the fabric. Meaning the stiffner (in this case, the moco) will be 2cm less so that the fabric can fold over it. Hope my explanation is not too confusing?

Hi Eris. Thank you for this awesome tutorial. Is there a reason why you chose to use chipboard for the side panels?

Chipboard is not as stiff ,so the sides of the bag would be a little more flexible especially in cases when I want to wear the tote on my shoulder.

Thanks. The marco I used is quite light but you can use anyone according to your sewing machine, yes either lining would be suitable

You're welcome, so basically, all the measurements are for the interlining (maco, chipboard e.t.c.) You cut them then wrap them with your fabric or synthetic leather.

Since this is fabric, you can use manual butterfly sewing machine to sew it but you should pick soft interfacing....... a size 18 needle should survive this

Watching your video over and over again. What seam allowance did you use for stitching the sides of the bag?

I don’t think there’s seam allowance involved. After cutting the exact size indicated, you wrap with fabric, gum the lining then cut out 2cm by 2cm at both sides of the bottom.
