Note for those making this to screen your air conditioner rather than a pool pump as Bob did: make sure to leave at least 2' between the screen and unit and have larger gaps between boards. If the air conditioner can't pull in air on its sides it can't cool your house well or for long before it fails.

The finished fence looks great. The paint covered the knots very well. It will be interesting to see if the knots bleed through over time. That will be the real test for the paint. Enjoy your videos. Keep them coming!!

Hi, I am in Warner Robins. Glad Matthew left you alone, we are too far inland for it to have been a problem. I like this build and may do it myself but with a stain that matches my wooden fence. I may even go so far as to make a ventilated cover for it to partially screen the unit from the sun and hopefully aid it in cooling. I use pocket holes from Kreg all the time and for 2 x 4s, I use the new HD size. Way more stronger than the original and treated to boot. thanx

Nice build Bob. I had a thought about the pocket holes; well not the holes, but an opportunity for support. If you had run the slats perpendicular, you could have gained some more support. I'm looking at the final product at 5:16 in the video. The top and bottom of the frame are the outside pieces...the verticals on the side are inside. If the slats had run from outside to outside then each and every slat would be a support against the corner joint. That probably isn't clear. In other words, if the side (verticals) were longer and the top and bottom pieces were set inside, then each horizontal slat would tie your ends together.

Great vid - I would add that if actually putting the panels around your AC condensing unit, be sure to provide plenty of space (at least 18") on all sides. You don't want to hinder air flow through those coils, and the slats, even though they are spaced apart, could dampen air flow through the coils if too close.

As someone who has spent about 8 years working behind a variety of paint counters earlier in my life, I can tell you that Sherwin Williams hands out shirts like nobody's business and so the vast majority of contractors wear them because they get a ton of them and don't care if they get dirty/covered in paint.

Most people don't think of the A/C unit itself. If your covering your A/C unit make sure you give plenty of space around the unit so you do not starve it of air. If you get too close you will restrict the airflow that rejects the heat and overheat your unit. Thus costing thousands fixing or replacing the unit. Great asthetic(sp?) suggestion, just be careful not to harm the unit.

Hello, thanks for the tutorial. I've been building this and i got my panels and everything painted. I went to put the 1x1's into the ground. Before i cement them in, how deep do you think they should go? Also, my panels feel pretty heavy. Will the 1x1 be strong enough have you found to support the weight?
@TheRPhelps24
@TheRPhelps24 2 жыл бұрын
If you're going to concrete them, might as well use 4×4 just in case since it's kind if permanent. Also, a good rule of thumb is 1/3 of the total length is in the ground. So half of what is above ground should be below ground.
