How to make an Alaska paddle for your Kayak, DIY aleutian paddle

Here I demonstrate how you can build your own paddle from blueprints. This paddle is very light, rather strong and have a large momentum. It will give you more mileage for less effort, also in windy conditions.

Thanks eh! Great insight and very informative. I want to make my own paddles too. Just getting into learning more about this style of paddle. I used to carve native art paddles in school in the 70s and 80s, still have my carving knives and cant wait to get building. I am from the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island BC. Cheers eh! -Shiny

Awesome tutorial thanks. what is the approximate weight of these paddles made from solid timber please?

Thank you! The weight depends a lot of the type of wood you use. Mine are made from Scandinavian spruce, a very strong and tough material considering its weight. With epoxy coating, glass fiber strengthen endings and polyurethane coat it still comes in at 1148 g.
