The subtract tool is not available in the free Sketchup version (2017 make). But you can explode everything and then right click, intersect faces with model and delete all the stuff you don't need!

At 2:08, just after you say "Make a plane", you press "Make Group" in the Edit popup, but you don't describe that step verbally. (A neophyte like me might miss it.) You also said ".. so, I'm gonna press R for the Rectangle tool". I think you meant the Rotate tool.

You have loads of more tools on your canvas than I have in my version. What version of sketchup is this? Is it a payed version or have they changed the user interface completely since this video was made?

"make another object to slice our tube...." You make a cube - but do you have to group this cube before rotating the face? It would be great if you could show how to rotate this face - that's where I'm getting stuck! Oh sorry... I see at 0.55 in the video that you group the block after rotating the face!

If you have the free desktop version, buy booltools2. Worth the 20$. Its solidtools plus more.

Man all you guys are something ..assuming things you should NOT..Apparently "Solid tools " is for PRO ONLY...Should have mentioned that first so I didnt waste my time trying to figure out how to cut holes out of a complex object..

Designer Hacks. I'm a real newb at SketchUp but after 20 odd years of using AutoCAD I think you owe it to people to find a more disciplined way of doing this once you have learned how to manipulate the axes in Sketchup... It is amateur to force teach having to create a separate component to subtract vs. slice object, particularly when one wants to keep both sides of the cut. Please update your instructions and notify us when you learn the proper way.

There are many ways to get to the same result and to assume that the way you would have done it is better than someone else's is arrogant and closed-minded.

Spin apex. Using solid tools with the trim or subtract option is just one way and is the proper way. Its calles solid tools because both objects have to be an actual solid. Look in entity info. In designer hacks second method with the cutting plane method, he didn't need to delete the other end of the pipe, he could have selwcted that geometry very easily, moved it, and then he would have had the other end. I do this all the time. But he was merely answering someones question of how to cut a pipe at 45. Instead of dropping how many years of xp you have in autocad, you could have literally said the following "hey, great video, how would you keep the other end of the pipe though?" Then, most likely, he would have replied
