I have been holding on to 4 lampshade frames for about 30 years and never had the courage to start on them. Your instructions are so clear and easy. Now I am going to go for it at last because I like to make everything myself. Thank you so much.

Hello. I too have been making Victorian lampshades for years. However, due to a work injury I became disabled and my hands became swollen and would lock up. Finally after many years my hands are not crippling up and I think after watching your videos I am prepared to attempt making lampshades again. I have several frames that have been untouched for many years. My technique is a little different but I think I will try your method on the next one that I will make. I prefer certain fabrics and have quite good experience with dying fabrics for accent and fringe. I am very excited to have found you and want very much to make some new and lovely lampshades.

Thank you so much for making these videos and sharing your knowledge with us! They're incredibly helpful--right to the point and easy to follow. I have a Victorian house and you can't buy shades like this anywhere. I am a sewer so I'm looking forward to making some once I can get my hands on the frames.

Hi Susan! Amazing tutorial. I’m looking at some beautiful velvets for the outside of my lamp rather than the lining. Could I get away with using a stretch velvet for the outside?
@susanscraftcabin10 ай бұрын
You can but I would recommend you attach a lining to the outer frame first and then use the velvet on top. Hope this helps

How long does it take to make a lampshade like this from start to finish?
@marystribling3104 Жыл бұрын
Hi Susan 😊, thanks so much for your talent and time to share this with us, great tutorial 😀!! I've been buying older lamps for a while and books, but your videos have helped so much. Now I can get to do it!! Do you recommend spraying the flame retardant on the fabric before cutting? Also, is the cotton bias a 1inch, or does it matter? Thank you again for your talent and inspiration and information!!🥰
@susanscraftcabin Жыл бұрын
HI Mary - happy to help. I would spray the flame retardant on after the shade is made but check on a small piece of fabric first. Doesn't matter how wide the cotton bias is - you can also just make your own with strips of fabric cut on the bias. Happy making.

Hi, Susan, thank you for the detailed instruction. Could you tell us what size of the frame you are using here?

This is a 16 inch diameter frame

Thank you for wonderful inspiration. I have a floating hoop lamp shade and I am attempting to cover it. The original paper lining is old and damaged. I am looking at wrapping bias tape around, like you have already shown me, and then using white cotton as lining and floral cotton as a main colour with tassels. Do you have any suggestions I regards to how to manage the floating hoop to get it even. Do I attach the top or the bottom first? I do hope you can help me. Lorinda from Australia 🇦🇺 😍
@susanscraftcabin2 жыл бұрын
HI Lorinda - I am not sure what you mean by a 'floating hoop'. Perhaps you could attach a photo

What a gorgeous lampshade with the black trimming! I do have a quick question if you see this. What kind of lining is the best to use if you want enough light to shine through but still want to finish the inside? I want a golden/beige lampshade but I don't really know what a good lining for it would be to have enough light come through. Thank you, your videos are wonderful.

I would use plain ivory fire retardant cotton.

Such a stylish result! I have an original frame that had celluloid rather than fabric inthat really typical green shade of the 1930s, it was damaged so I removed it and am now inspired to restore it. Are you on Instagram?

Not on instagram but well done for restoring an original lampshade.
