How To Make An Economiser - A Feature Length Episode. Economisers are often used in full sized steam plants fitted with a Condenser in order to preheat the boiler feed water using the exhaust steam from the engine. This is not exactly the same as in a full sized steam plant, but the temperature of the Condenser/Oil Trap fitted onto a common Brass bedplate with the water tank does pre-warm the water to a certain extent....................................... / keithappleton

Whenever i get discouraged and start delaying things, I always find these video tutorials give me encouragement and often show how easy it can be, which always seems to re-boot my enthusiasm. Hope the big move is going well. Thank you from a fan on the other side of the world in Australia.

Blessings be! I had forgotten what the name for that shinier paint was compared to matte. It really is a grand thing to watch your videos. Aslo is a pain to forget something so simple at just 30 years old.

Very interesting video thanks for making it as long as you did. A method I found for turning thin wall tubing, and I do it a lot, when you have a scroll chuck if you run the chuck in reverse the scroll has a tendency to tighten on the material without crushing it. Then you turn the end square from the far side. Each time you turn on the lathe in reverse the material will get a little tighter in the check without crushing it. P.S. Oooooooooh, paint drying.........

Interested & Curious about the main Boiler copper / aluminum joint. What kind of solder was used? Thank you for the great hands-on-tutorials :0)
@keithappleton
@keithappleton 7 ай бұрын
This is not a Boiler, the Aluminium parts are just the push on lids . . . . . The Water Tank and Condenser was just soft soldered to the Brass base . . .

Dissimilar metals. I wouldn’t worry too much about that. Man that is so frigging awesome what you built. I love your videos. I’m just getting started with all this. What is that etching primer stuff for? Does it etch the metal or something?
@keithappleton
@keithappleton 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, Etching primer contains an acid that etches the metal so that the paint sticks to it.

If I use a file on a part in the lathe I always try to use the middle of the file. If you use the tip there’s much more chance of catching it…and disaster!

Keith, your band saw looks similar to mine. I find that I have to keep the guides far from the work just like in this video. If I move them closer I find the blade starts to jump about.

hello, i am making a mini steam engine for my school project... at school. can i ask at 17:10, that steam engine in the background, how is the flywheel secured to the shaft, i could not come up with a good way to do it myself and have been scouring the internet to find the best solution

Dumb question: Could you run a coil of copper tube through the water tank and send the exhaust steam through that?

Yes of course, but this is a simpler and quite a neat way of doing it I think . . . .
