First, let me say I was inspired by this video! I needed an incubator to perform bacterial cultures from bird droppings to identify effective antibiotics. I thought about styrofoam, but keeping a homemade electrical device on overnight worried me because of the highly flammable nature of styrofoam. I opted for a 3 qt. crock pot, using the WillHI thermostat shown in the video. After a few frustrating attempts to program the device I was successful. My wife, however, will not let me keep it on overnight in the house so it is relegated to a corner of our tiny deck, outside. Thank you.

Ordering heater pad and controller to build one for my Buff Orpington. Chicken eggs should be incubated at a temperature between 99 and 102 degrees Fahrenheit (99.5 is often considered to be ideal) and 50 to 65 percent relative humidity & need to be rotated at least once a day. Thanks.

@MechNinji

Well the temp should only get in the very early hundreds at most, like maybe 115 Tops? So most clear plastics or glass should work fine. :)

If i made one of these would it be okay to store in a cool/cold place? The heat mat should still be able to keep it at the right temp correct? Also do i have to worry about the Styrofoam melting because the heat mat is directly applied to it?
@MechNinji
@MechNinji 6 жыл бұрын
As long as your heating is large enough you should be fine. Just be sure to closely monitor it for a day or so to make sure everything is okay. And styrofoams melting point is over 200 degrees F, so unless you pass that point you should be fine.

How does the tem controler work.. Like if it says its above 90 degrees.. It lowers the tem or what
@MechNinji
@MechNinji 6 жыл бұрын
The heating pad heats up the incubator. So once the temp controller says the incubator is at the temp you set it at it will turn off the heating pad, then because of that the incubator will slowly start cooling down. Then once the incubator starts to get a little too cold the temp controller will turn the heating pad back on. :)

I'll be using it to incubate bacterial cultures.
@MechNinji
@MechNinji 7 жыл бұрын
No, you should be fine. They put those warnings on there to try to protect the company if someone put the heater in something flammable. As long as you are controlling the temperature of it so that it doesn't get crazy hot (100+ degrees) you should be fine. :)

Do research before using this method, especially if you have reptile eggs. A lot of eggs require decent humidity and would require the extra step of adding in a glass of water or using a submersible heater with a thermostat in a few inches of water.
@MechNinji
@MechNinji 6 жыл бұрын
IMDARKFIRE007 No, you just use hatchrite. You have to put the eggs in little cups to hold them and you put the hatchrite at the bottom of the cups. It's the same for all reptile eggs. :)
