Not sure why you would remove the tray, assuming your talking about the water trays, they help the humidity . I have never moved those and always got a good hatch rate. I just stopped turning them about 4 days till hatch.
@simplifygardening6 жыл бұрын
No Fishmut. not the water trays you need them for the humidity. I was talking about the egg turning tray, you need to remove this so they can not be rotated for last three days and so the chicks can move around unhindered when they hatch

A really useful piece of kit to build. Do you spray the eggs a few days before hatching to soften the shell? In my younger days I used to breed canaries and that is something I would do, together with fitting a birdbath for the hen to dampen her feathers. Do you remove the chicks ASAP when they hatch, into an incubator? Would it be possible to set up a time lapse on the hatching date? Nice one mate 😀👍🐥🐥🐥🐥

My grandad kept chickens,but was a very sparse set up including an old clean mop head to mimic the mother hen and an infra red lamp.I like the idea of a timelapse set up.

With the hole for the fan, do you have a hard time keeping your humidity and temp at the right setting?
@simplifygardening5 жыл бұрын
No because there is no hole the controller and fan block it and there is a plate that seals it off, it does not draw air from outside only moves the air around in the container

FYI, chickens is either sex / both sexes, adults; chicks is unsexed fluffies, both sexes, before feathering. POULTS are young hens, either too young to lay yet, or who don't yet lay full-size eggs. [Pullet egg = the 1st few eggs laid by a young hen, they can be 1/3 to 1/2 the size of a mature-size egg.] Typically, U hatch about 50% each sex, so U always have many-more Ms than U need; separating Ms from Fs & even desexing the Ms to reduce aggression & increase growth, is a good idea. Ms will pester hens year-round, & will fight with one another; U can't have more than 1 sexually-mature cock bird, they'll beat the tar out of each other, & upset the whole flock. All that fighting & aggro disturbs everyone. Desexed Ms / testes removed are called CAPONS. They won't tread the hens constantly, nor will they fight one another incessantly. Much calmer birds.

Cross breeding is fine Tony but inbreeding is a bit dodgy. They say that when it goes right it is called line breeding when it does’t it is inbreeding. One of my best crossbreeds is a cuckoo marans x buff Plymouth rock. The cocks are born white so I can dispose of them after hatching.
