Hello and welcome to a much awaited pocket hole joinery project. In this video I will illustrate how to build an electric smoker. I have been without a smoker for some time now and thought I would be a great time to make a do it yourself (DIY) electric smoker as we will be coming out of lockdown soon.
Now I must state that in this video of how to build an electric smoker I am using electronics in a way that they were not intended to, so if you do make this treat it just like any other BBQ and keep it 3m or 10 feet from your house. Nonetheless, I am more than happy with my pocket hole joinery plans to make a do it yourself (DIY) electric smoker.
Please make sure that if you do build this while in operation, this is a BBQ and keep it 10 feet away from any structure.

Thank you so much for the kind words; however, if I had it all over to do again, I would of used tongue and groove. But the again, hind sight is always 20/20 eh…

This is the most underrated DIY video there is. Dropped a big fat like! I do have one request, any chance you can share the dimensions with us?

Sorry for the late response; moreover, thank you for the kind words. The wood I mostly used was 1x3 or 19x64mm. the cut list is as follows: 20 lengths (sides) at 750mm, 12 lengths (top/bottom) at 550mm, 9 lengths (doors) 475mm, I would measure prior as you may need more or less… 2 lengths (top/bottom front panel)19x31x583, 2 lengths (front panel sides) 19x52x650, 1 length (door divider) 19x64x480; as well, some 2x3 for the rack/pan supports and some scram for the control cover and box. However, I must state that I were to do it all over again, I would of used tongue and grove for this project and less pocket hole screws, isn’t hind sight a wonderful thing…. Please let me know if you need anything else. Take care and keep well.

@@CleverWoodworks Oh my lord, I was about to start my work but thankfully I saw this comment. I stay all the way in India, and I'll have to check where to source tongue and grove wood from. Would you suggest tongue & grove because of the seasoning/shrinkage of the wood as you use it?

The small hairline cracks should fill with carbon over time like a slip fit exhaust; whereas, tongue and grove would resolve that from the start and stop some heat loss. However, with that being stated it will still work. If you have a table saw or a router you can do the tongue and grove yourself.

~S~ Sir. Great smoker build. I did something similar but used a old dorm fridge. Was going to smoke deer/pork sausage links....Didn't get to try it out though because of fire from a large brisket smoker. It had a hole in the fire box and actually dropped on the floor of my bbq shelter. Well, it burned the shelter my smoker box and my 67 Nova. Lol got a new Oklahoma Joe smoker so, start again. I really like watching you build thing. I can still learn something new. Did you think about using tongue and Grove would. Anyway great video.

why hello there sir, hope all is well. Such a shame about your previous smoker. Must admit a tear did start to squeeze out thinking of a 67 Nova going up in a blaze…. Ironically enough I was thinking about tongue and grove just about the same time I cracked open a beer to admire the finish on it, isn’t that 20/20 hind sight a wonderful thing…. but I have given it a few test runs with a couple sessions of ribs and chicken and my stomach had no complaints.

Fantastic are you using pellets ? What wood flavor?

No I just use wood chips on an old pie tin, I soak the majority of the wood chips that I am going to use and also use dry; reason being is that the dry will smoulder first and the wet will kick in later. As for the type I stick with a mix of cherry and apple as it makes a nice light smoke flavour and avoid using hickory and mesquite as I find them way to harsh. Who knows perhaps another video is called for on the topic of smoked ribs and chicken....
