This was a great video, but you didn’t touch on how to get the back and front level taking into account a curvy backside......

this is what I've been trying to igure out for ages, as I have wide hips. maybe one o those chalk markers would work better or us, so we can be wearing the skirts while iguring out an even hem ?

Hi I’m having issues with the back being higher than the front. At what point do I measure extra for your backside allowance. Does that question make sense??

how many of these steps can you skip if your fabric wasn't nearly as stretchy. For a less stretchy woven fabric as well as a knit fabric(i really doubt the knit fabric will change after being hung up or within seconds of your test cut)
@sparklybelly3 жыл бұрын
Good question! When I make a skirt about of stretch fabric, I sew the hem at the same time as I sew the rest of the skirt because it doesn't stretch like woven. If you find that your fabric doesn't stretch much, you could skip the hanging and cutting, but I'd still store the skirt flat or rolled up instead of hanging. Woven fabric always has the risk of stretching out over time. Hope this helps! 😊

How about a flare dress?

Good question! I approach all skirts and dresses made with lightweight woven fabric (e.g. chiffon, satin etc) the same way!

I have a few swing tops but their to long so I’ve been trying to cut it evenly no luck it comes out a lot shorter on the sides than the front HELP !
@sparklybelly Жыл бұрын
Is it possible that the front side is stretching out? If the skirt is cut on the bias, it's easy to stretch out, so when you store it, it's better to fold it and lay it flat instead of hanging. Is the front side still too long for you? Is there still room to cut? If you send me a photo to mao@sparklybelly.com, I'll be happy to look at it and offer suggestions 😊

What if cut the top part, waist area? Instead of the bottom part? I think that will be better
@sparklybelly Жыл бұрын
Good question! It can work, and some people do cut from the waist to shorten their skirts. But when you are trying to make an even hem, especially for skirts made out of fabric that shifts a lot (e.g. chiffon), it's easier to trim from the bottom 😊

How many layers/circles do you cut for one skirt?
@sparklybelly3 жыл бұрын
Good question! At the minimum, I use 2 half-circles for 1 circle skirt. But if the fabric is too sheer for my liking, I make 2 layers of that. And if I want more volume, I use 3 half-circles per layer. :)
