You saved my life! This hack is genius and you should get an award! I needed to hem a dress in a hurry and couldn’t find Ban-rol interfacing in my area and ordering it online wouldn’t arrive in time so I went to JoAnn’s and found the next best thing. Dritz iron on mending tape has the stiffness needed and can fray like the Ban-rol interfacing. I gave it a try and it worked like a charm. Thank you for posting this video. Best tutorial out there for rolled hems! I won’t do it any other way now. Bless you, sweet woman, bless you!

Thank you! I did not know that the Dritz tape can be used instead, excellent addition!

And today, YOU are the lifesaver! At Joann's and they do not have ban-roll. They did not have the dritz you used, either, but based on your experience, I was able to choose something else to try.

Hi, could you recommend a brand of roll ban and width? Thanks
@hobbyhopper31438 ай бұрын
@@lupebutterfly9161 I don’t know where you are but I got a roll from the internet that is 1” wide. I believe the width matters bc I’m old and it’s easier to hold onto. Also I applied it in a succession of 12-15 inch strips (the hem was easily 70 inches around). I think I got mine from Amazon before I realized you can buy 5’ strips from Etsy. Please try it on a similar fabric before you commit to the target item; just get an eighth of a yard of something close. I wish you the best of luck. It worked great for me. ☺️

I started sewing in the late 60's. We had a basic sewing machine, chalk, ruler and straight pins. That's about it. We made amazing clothes we thought lol. When the Pfaff 1222e came out with a built in walking foot in the 70's we thought we had it all. Us 3 girls plus mom fought over sewing machine time. Still sewing on same machine plus my Bernina 1230. Still making amazing clothes. You are never to old to learn new things.

Great idea. Would this work if I was using a stretchy knit fabric. I need to make a tiny hem, which if more like an itty bitty overcast stitch of the raw end on the legs on a pair of pants and I've done a few other pars for my daughter and the fabric ends up very wavy . I've seen the stick on one that looks perfect, and washes off after you wet the, but I don't need it double sided and thought it might clog the needle up sewing directly on the dried glue. And tips!

The only thing I can think of is do one edge, then the other. Yes in the corner you will have a double hem, but since the material is very light, it should not be a problem. This will of course not work on thicker materials.

Thank you for this video. Are all Ban Roll products created equally? Any recommendations on one to begin with? Also, can you reuse the Ban Roll for another hem or do you recommend starting with a new one each time? I love my roll hem feet but have an unusual size to duplicate so I will try this method.

Thank you! I am not sure about all Ban Roll products. I think they all should be the same quality (only the width can be different). The one I used I bought in Canadian fabric store Fabricland. I have many responses from my readers now and everybody who used it didn't have any problems with the Ban Roll, so I guess they are the same. I have an affiliate link on my blog page for the Ban Roll from Amazon. As for reusing the Ban Roll, yes, absolutely, you should reuse it, don't start with the new one.

@@SewingTutorialsByAgeberry I got some from Wawak.com and, wow. This method really helped me with some challenging fabrics. If it helps anyone, I had to hem a very stretchy jersey and had tension problems. I switched to a walking foot with the Ban Rol and had great success. Taking me hemming in 2 new directions in one week was quite a happy leap for me. Thanks for your help.

I should mention I used the Ban Rol with a heavy scuba fabric, a polyester sheer fabric, and a light 4-way stretch jersey all in the same week and all of the hems were crisp. No more searching for the correct size rolled hem foot and struggling to feed it!

@@MeSeeVeeTee Thank you very much, Christine! I am very glad you took the time to share your experience with other sewists. I only used this method for silk chiffon but now I certainly will use it for other fabrics as well. Great idea!
