We use wire because eye pins have to be thin and fairly strong. To use this method the material also has to be easy to bend and it has to keep its shape, so it pretty much has to be some sort of metal. If you can find another source of thin bendable metal you can use that, but I'm not sure what to recommend. You could also try carving an eye pin I suppose, out of bone or horn perhaps, but that would be a whole different method.

At 2:28, when you bend the wire around, it's easy to do here because there is no bead underneath. But when I do this with a bead underneath, I find the movement awkward. How do you deal with that problem?

One thing you could try is when you are done with the initial loop, take a pair of chain nose pliers and grip the whole loop. This might help to get your hand out of the way. It can be a little bit of an awkward movement but just keep practicing. It does get easier.

Anyone else have a problem finding the 95° angle? I've been bending mine at 90° but it always works out. Also, I don't understand why it's pronounced "ha-leek" when it's clearly a play on words derived from the more common "holic" or addict.
