A tutorial on How to make a simple Infrared(IR) remote tester/receiver circuit on a breadboard. You can switch on LED using TV Remote with this circuit.
This circuit can be modified to turn on LED lights whenever a button on the remote control is pressed.
The components you need are: TSOP1738, LED, (470 -1000)ohm Resistor and a (10-100)micro-farad Capacitor.
Circuit Diagram plus more Information: elonics.org/remote-tester-cir...

These tutorials are very useful for beginners like me. I like how you follow schematics and install the components accordingly. Plus the analysis that you do after. One recommendation from me is to maybe use more space on the breadbord and make connections with jumper wires if you think that might make it easier for people to follow

Thank you for this video & circuit! Most IR test circuits I've seen used a transistor to invert the signal. This works quite well with the TL1838 which I can get for for 6 cent at Ali Express:-) I want to build simple IR controlled LED with kids at a local school, and this is a simple basis. I've dropped the resistors and use a 3v coin cell (I know, bad practice, but the internal resistance is enough to prevent high currents for the LED and IR-rx). The battery is held in place in-between Popsicle-sticks with rubber bands, the LED and tl1838 just plug in there too, and the LED cathode and rX signal pin touch ontop of the stick.

Hi sir, For example: When pause button is press, i want to do one thing. When stop button is press, i want to do another. Is it possible to do that? How the receiver circuit detect different kind of button is pressed? Thanks urgent. I think adding just microcontroller code doesnt worked because no matter which button you pressed, tsop1738 output is only high or low. So, anyone can solve? Welcome to reply
@elonics
@elonics 7 жыл бұрын
TSOP1738 gives PWM output with data corresponding to the button you've pressed. You should use a micro-controller to decode that.

This should work properly if we use a 9v battery and a 220ohm resister instead of a 470ohm resister, should it not? This my question Actually I was trying this project from instructibles but well, there seem to be some problems.... Could you please clarify my doubt?
@elonics
@elonics 8 жыл бұрын
Optimum supply voltage is between (5-6)v. You can use LM7805 to reduce voltage to 5v. TSOP1738 can output maximum current of 5mA. So it should be sufficient to drive a normal LED. In case if you want to drive a brighter LED or require more output current, you need to use a transistor.

@elonics

I looked at it. The TSOP1738 outputs the demodulated signal directly without any conversion to serial data. So the output is continuous. But in case of keyes k845754, AFAIK the output is in the form of "serial communication". It just sends the data in a split second and stops. So, the LED doesn't appear to be glowing.

Are there different kinds of IR receiver? I saw some with a receiver that just looks like an LED and other like this that is an IC, do they work just the same?
@elonics
@elonics 7 жыл бұрын
The one which looks like an LED doesn't have a demodulator circuit which makes it more prone to background Infra-Red noise and so the range is less. The one which looks like an IC has internal circuitry to respond only to Infra-Red waves with 38kHz frequency (For TSOP1738). So it responds only to IR remotes and has greater range.

One more question. :D Is the 38kHz frequency the common frequency for IR transmitters? I'll be trying to make a circuit that uses IR LED (don't know its freq.) as transmitter for an object counter, would the TSOP1738 work just fine?
@elonics
@elonics 7 жыл бұрын
A simple IR LED doesn't emit modulated waves. It emits plain InfraRed rays. You need to use a 555 timer or micro-controller to modulate the emitted light at 38kHz. This circuit will do that: goo.gl/images/VbXBu5

Capacitor does the work of storing energy right....so how is that storing of energy working over here?

TSOP1738 outputs discontinuous output signal. By adding a capacitor, we store a bit of energy when there's a bit of signal and provide it to the LED when the signal drops.
