Hi, if I want to engrave a pattern in a curved object that I have modelled, how can I do this? For example, I have an S-shaped model and I want the train track to follow the curve on the surface of my model. I can't seem to use the curve modifier cause it's an object surface and not a curve, I don't know if there's a way to create a curve that follows the exact curve and surface of my object either, nor does the boolean modifier seem to work when I use an array as the target object.

Hi I have some question: (1) Why moving the curve to the middle of train track? (2) Why applying the location can let the track fit perfectly on the curve? (3) What about using fit to curve, instead of fix array? Do I still need to move the curve and scale it? I am having trouble with fitting on curve issue, please help, Many thanks

Great video! Tried to apply it to my simple task and I failed miserably. I wish to add a road to a map. So, I have the map as a reference, I think I add a curve on the map. I add a plane on which I add an image of the road...then...voodoo magic occurs. Would you know how to go about this simple task?

Thanks for the video.. But in middle to long tracks, performance takes a big hit. Any tips on how to improve performance for a very long track? looks like the array modifiers creates too much vertices

what you can do is delete the face that gets connected before applying array modifier

Instead of a train track, I tried using a Mesh Plane that I elongated (to resemble a path), and then the same method with the path to create the curve, but the Mesh Plane comes out distorted.

Does your plane have enough geometry? Did you remember to reset its location, rotation and scale?

Guys, if you use this curve, it's called rectangle. the object will not move always on the rectangle line, it either make the orbiting path bigger or smaller, very funny...

dang its wo wacky and unstable, move curve, everything starts to spazz out, move object in one direction it move opposite and twists and turns xD welcome to blender, even after 11 years I still dont get why its like this.

Make sure to reset the position, rotation and scale and do try again. That's all I can think of because that never happened to me.
