it's clear how to make the whistle part. how do we then poke holes to make it play do re mi ... relative to its inherent tone pls?

The best way is to poke holes that are comfortably placed and slowly widen their diameter listening to the note changes with a tuner or a cell phone with a tuner app. It takes a lot of patience and trial and error. I have had the best luck with making an English pendant style ocarina ( google it) which only has four holes but can play a full octave. Good luck hope that helps!
