Your technique of folding a strip at the bottom to have a little more paper for a tail or to have a color change while keeping everything square is something I do often. It took five years of practice, folding models many days a week to finally be able to design my own models. Origami takes a lot of practice. Trying it three or five or ten times is sometimes not enough. I have attempted to fold a model 50 times before success (or sometimes not). Origami is challenging. It takes practice. Don't give up. I'm pretty good at it now and it still takes me a lot of attempts to be successful with a particularly complex model. Someone at work asked me "do you ever fold a complex model and the paper rips when you're almost finished?" Lol. All. The. Time. I brought in my unsuccessful Red Panda. Tore the paper at step 110 of 150. I will be visiting my nieces and nephews soon. The girls are 12, 11, and 6. They love to fold. They are already intermediate folders. I wanted to let you know how important your contribution has been to my love of folding and everyone I teach and everyone they teach ...

Woohoo! I made it!!! Actually I used 15cm*15cm paper so the details were quite tricky but I did it and ended up with a beautiful dog!

I was successful and posted it on Instagram. I've made others since. This dog is very versatile. With a few adjustments or different paper it can be one of many similar looking dogs. For example using black and white origami paper makes it look like a Border Collie. If you almost completely hide the tail it looks like an American Australian Shepherd. They dock their tails in the US. I've made a few of these and given them to people who loved that it looked like their favorite breed.

Hi Seth, I just ordered two of your books - Birds and Dogs. Really looking forward to folding them. Your designs are quite beautiful, and I get lots of compliments on your greyhound and blue jay sitting on my shelf that I folded from your KZbin tutorials. I'm not a manga fan, but I can see there being a big market for that. I hope your new book is selling well. Any chance of a sneak peek at what might be coming next?

not yet, but soon! How about folding it and then unfolding it! :)

I thought about that, and drawing it in oripa. I love your videos, but when models get complex, it takes quite a lot of time to be in front of the screen to complete the model. I've seen a channel where the guy would show you how to collapse and fold an already pre-creased complex model, which I found really nice because otherwise he would have to record a REALLY long video. Your models are incredible and your channel is amazing! Although if I may, I would say that for repetitive steps (like do steps 15-32 on the other 4 sides for animal legs, for example) it would be nice to show the first fold and just fast forward the other repetitive steps. It would shrink the video size and make it even more appealing. Tadashi mori does this on his videos. Please keep up with your amazing designs! Thanks for this video :)

I agree. But sometimes it's useful to have them repeat because some people get stuck on a step and when they check how to fold it, it will be mirrored and hard to solve.

I don't know exactly what you are having trouble with, but just in case anyone is wondering, you just need to unfold all of the layers underneath and make a valley fold so that two "rectangles"/lines of the white remain on top of the grey. After that, unfold the tail and flatten the paper such that you make a triangle with the midtline aligning with the vertical one on the grey. Hope that makes it clearer.

Where is the best/most affordable place to find 35cm origami paper (or larger)?
@Artenasuss7 жыл бұрын
www.origami-shop.com/en/origami-paper-xsl-2386_207.html world wide shipping enjoy (even if prices are quite high)
@kcthewanderer7 жыл бұрын
Haha, yes, I found them, but thanks for replying. I was wondering if there was a cheaper source, perhaps US based, or maybe a source that has bulk pricing rather than selling sheets in such small quantities/high price per sheet (plus shipping). It seems like there ought to be a midpoint between kami and 2 dollars+ per sheet paper. Also, it bugs me that there are no 14, 20, or 25 inch kami packs. You'd think no one wanted to practice an elephant or a bear before cracking out the expensive paper.

Would Tant paper be alright? It's the only paper I have.
@SethFriedmanOrigami8 жыл бұрын
If you use TANT, you should color one side white with acrylic paint. If you use TANT, 14inch paper may be too small. Try it out and see!
