I agree! The quick introduction lets viewers know who you are then you get right into the project. At the end when you suggest viewers subscribe to the change, you are quick and to the point. Each step is described in detail yet doesn't have any extra talk that viewers really don't need. You are a wonderful teacher with such a soothing and encouraging tone.

Sherrill, there are many things I appreciate re. your videos. Right now, watching this video, I very much appreciate that you do not spend endless minutes actually sewing the example. Your post-it notes and close-ups are excellent and easy to follow. The minutes, in other videos,spent chain stitching or sewing strips together are not necessary. Demonstrate it once and move on If the viewer doesn't get it, rewind or back up is available. Please keep doing what you are doing.

I really like your videos and have learned so much from you. I don’t remember you saying, do you make it a practice to prewash the fabric before making projects such as a potholder? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
@TheSewingRoomChannel2 жыл бұрын
Hi Diana. Yes you can pre-wash the fabric before you cut it. Make sure you zig zag stitch the 2 raw edges of the fabric before wash/dry cycle. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
@dianaacree24152 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your reply. I wasn’t sure if it was necessary and if it would make a difference with the quality of the potholder. If I gave it as a gift, I wouldn’t want it to shrink if I didn’t prewash it.

@julietong14184 жыл бұрын
I absolutely loved this video. U explain steps so carefully and are so organised. The photographer is also focused..I was just wondering if your used straight-cut binding or bias?
@TheSewingRoomChannel4 жыл бұрын
I Juliet. I used a straight grain cut binding because all the side edges are straight. If the corners were curved, then used bias cut fabric. Stay safe. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing.

Hi Serap. I am glad to help you, but could tell me the size of the square you are referring to. There are so many pieces of fabric in this video. It would help if I new the measurements of this square. Let me know. Happy sewing.

When using the insul brute should there be a wrong and right side and which way should they face
@TheSewingRoomChannel2 жыл бұрын
Hi Deb. The instructions that come with Insul-Bright do not specify which side should be face. I think placing it with either side up is fine. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
@lhm720525 жыл бұрын
I have made oven mitts, years ago, and they were not very effective in protecting hands from the heat. Maybe I didn't use enough batting with the insulbrite, I dont know. Do these seem to be pretty heat resistant? If so, I'd love to try making these. Very cute!
@TheSewingRoomChannel5 жыл бұрын
Hi Lori. My husband is the cook in the family. I just enjoy the great meals he prepares. I call him the food devil. He has never complained that the Insul-bright didn't protect his hands. Try making one with the Insul-bright and see what you think. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing.
@learntocrochet16 жыл бұрын
I know it was years ago that you published this but if you are still able to, perhaps you can clear two things up? 1) Does the Insulbright's metallic side face out, away from the inside of the mitt on the back piece? 2) Why is Insulbright necessary on the smaller top piece? Seeing that part doesn't come in direct contact with heat, wouldn't two layers of cotton batting suffice?

How do I stitch in the ditch with all the pins in the back??
@TheSewingRoomChannel3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alba. Even though the pins are on the back just turn it over to the front and stitch next to the binding. Don't stitch over the pins - remove the pins as you sew. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍

Is the binding cut on the bias?
@TheSewingRoomChannel8 жыл бұрын
No. Because all the edges are straight, it is not necessary to cut the binding on the bias. Binding cut on the bias is usually used on rounded edges. Thanks for watching the video. Happy sewing.

There is 2 strips of binding. The shorter piece of binding is sewn onto the top edge of the front section. The longer piece of binding is sewn around the entire edge of the oven mitt and ends with making the loop. I hope I answered your questions. Please feel free to ask me more questions. Happy sewing.

I don't understand why u made 2 sets of layers with lining, when u were going to seal it from all sides? I mean what was the point of lining then? I love the way u explain but I'm lost there.Can u help please?
@TheSewingRoomChannel8 жыл бұрын
Hi. That's a good question. The cotton lining fabric is used to protect the insulation fabric (cotton batting and insul-brite ) from coming apart. The insulation fabrics are fragile and can come apart easily through use. Also, the cotton lining fabric is very soft and comfortable to touch. I hope I answered your question. Happy sewing.

The instructions for sewing on the tail are driving me insane. You show how to cut and fold the 7” strip but you don’t show how to sew it to the pot holder... you miss that out completely.
@TheSewingRoomChannel5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ann. The 7" strip of binding is placed at the top edge of the very front section. Go to 5 minute 8 seconds into the video for the demonstration. The "tail" you are referring to is the hanging loop. The loop is part of the binding that goes all around the outer edge of the oven mitt. The last step demonstrates how to make the loop out of the end of the binding. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing.
