Good tips and pointers for future smp creators/owners! A big thing that also affects it is practice. You won't always make a great server first try, but experiment, learn different styles, figure out what the players/viewers actually like!

I just wanna say thank you very much for this. Some of the info you spoke about is stuff I never really thought about, but makes a lot of sense in hindsight! The SMP I'm in has yet to hold applications, we've been an invite only SMP forever now. The SMP is over a year old now. I wouldn't say we're going strong, but we are very unique in that we're all responsible for the server. We all have our roles, we do what we can. We all trust each other, we hold polls to make sure everyone agrees, we have weekly meetings to keep everyone interacting. And now I'm sorta taking on the role of community manager for our discord, in that I will be holding events to keep our community active. We're a very small community, considering we're on Bedrock. But that's okay. We'll push through and make an impact.

I have a realm on Bedrock that has technically been running for over a year. It has a long, rich, troubled, and joyous history. The first four months, from June 8 to December 1st 2022, were what I'd consider the Golden Age of the realm. In December one of my two admins left, leaving a huge gap. So I decided to close the realm for a while. Then in May of this year, I got it back up and it became active again. On the one year anniversary of the realm, the player count peaked for the first time ever, and it was an amazing event. In the months since then, it's had a few new people come and go, but I still have a couple people that have been there since day one. I never expected it to last as long as it has, and what blows me away is, it's the only realm I've ever ran that didn't die in the first two months. And the best part is, it's still going, albeit a bit slowly as members are experiencing real life at this time. Despite that I'm keeping it up for them to join at their convenience. It's a very small community, and we all trust each other, so griefers and thieves have never been an issue. I am so grateful and blessed to have the community I do, and it goes to show that amazing things can happen even when you're not expecting it

Great advice! My friends and I have created a SMP together and started earlier this year and we’re still going strong. a big issue with the SMP i was in is that no one else was trying to make good content, i was the only one who inputted the most into my videos, which is why my videos are the only one's up about the server, for other people there was nothing going on in the videos, and not surprisingly it got shut down less than a month of it's creation

Honestly, I think all you need to build a strong SMP is just to get a good group of friends, a few mods if you want, and a great community. I just started up a small one with just three people on my own PC, and it’s honestly great.

Amazing video! you mentioned that making enemies would break down the server. I want to start the Bloodstained SMP, where every player must make alliances, fight others constantly, and avoid traps. There are a couple main mechanics im still working on but there will be new and exciting items added every season. This video helped a lot so I'm not sure where to take this. None of my friends consistently play MC anymore, and I dont have access to money or coding to make the server. Any way I can change this? (No, my current YT channel is not what I'm uploading it to. This one is just for fun and I don't take it at all seriously)

If you want to run an smp where there is a lot of fighting and enemies and stuff, just make sure that 1). All of the players have had the chance to be friends in a less stressful setting beforehand, like doing discord games where people can get to know each other 2). You make it clear that any rivalries on the smp stay on the smp. It’s like you’re an actor playing a character, and offscreen you’re friends with everyone no matter what happens on-screen. As for coding, try learning datapacks and coding it yourself, it’s a fun challenge and gives you a ton more control. And you don’t really need any knowledge in coding languages, just Minecraft commands

In my community Spanish community in 2020 there was an smp that was like the lifesteal smp for us the server was called permadeath smp a hardcore Minecraft server were every 10 days for 110 days the game would get harder and harder until it was imposible to play now if there is a new smp most likely it is going to be with that concept

Great video but you also missed a few things! Usually people get too excited when making a server so they just rush it and spend 2 minutes thinking about it before making it. YOU MUST INNOVATE!!! People think if they add a simple twist to their server it makes it cool. It doesn’t. Just adding a twist can sometimes make it more inconvenient for members and only is there to pop up better for yt. But then people might not want to play since the twist is so annoying. THE CONCEPT IS EVERYTHING!!! You also have to keep in mind that if you own the server, and you cheat? You kill it. It might be fun for a bit but if you get burnt out since you cheated everything in, you just stop the server. If someone finds out you cheat, it makes it so much less fun and people will just quit. If you can’t control yourself, deop yourself and then only give console permissions. Lastly… SMASH LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE FOR 10 YEARS OF GOOD LUCK

You see, in order to make people want to work and compete with different people you need to constantly make sure everyone can interact with ease, and helping new members to keep it professional. If I’m not on I can’t use my extensive knowledge of political systems to help organize my Nation server.

There are a lot of vanilla servers, it’s just that when you have a vanilla server things rely entirely on the people to make their videos good and it falls apart really quickly unless you have really experienced creators. I’ve seen a trend of people making vanilla smps and saying the twist is that there is no twist, but they’re entirely missing the point. If you treat vanilla like a twist, you’re missing the point. So, there are a ton of vanilla content servers nowadays it’s just that nobody does them well

I think the problem with most SMP's, is: They try to be "new" but they either copy lifesteal or bliss. So I'm sorry if this sounds like I'm trying to advertise, but me and some other guy are co running an SMP, that is just vanilla, we left the pvp aspect, and make sure all of our members are active, and make events. And of course make sure they are all good with each other, so there will be no drama
