You should try chalk for tracing. It makes a really fine line and can be wiped off and won’t leave a mark.

I make 110L and 90 L DCF backpacks for vol bivouac trips. I am absolutely amazed how great the shoulder strap design with the bottle holders. You are the Maestro. Also huge thanx to share your ideas. Big help for me.

Just hit pause as your redoing the shoulder trace to be 90degress...so excuse if said later if being inpatient on commenting, thou I learned thru dcf research that if it’s stretch/weight pulled on its bias will warp so believe it also should be treated the same as fabric grain and take care to not over taunt it diagonally (heard its an issue on tents from weather making them wrap) if have a scrap of dcf try it out to see if true thou k;) Thanks again ⚡️✌🏼

when you're doing a zig zag stich on the elastic stuff, do you run it through twice? stitch one side, flip it over, stitch it again? I'm about to use some elastic webbing that's able to be folded over the edge of a fabric for some stretchy pockets tomorrow, which i think you're only supposed to run a zig zag stitch through once. now I'm thinking I might just fold the fabric over itself. did you forgo to elastic folded over the actual mesh just to save weight?

Just been looking for straps for my next backpack and really appreciate the time you have taken to make the video. I like the idea of the longer wider straps as I am also looking to do away with my hip belt. The two over lapping pockets are a great idea how do they work out in practice?

It's and EVA foam from extremtextil but, you can use an old roll mat

I love your videos ;) Just to confirm, on the CAD file (which I can open because I have a license for Bentley Microstation), these should be shortened by 5 centimeters to match the ones you have on the dyneema pack ? Thanks for your help. Great Videos. Love watching them.

On a more serious note, does the foam really add much over the wide straps other than weight?

I think you need enough (but not a lot) foam such that the straps don't collapse/narrow on themselves

@@twofoolswalking2109 Would not spacer mesh be lighter and provide some ventilation (good for warmer climates)? You could put some taffeta on the skin side to stop the chafing.

I'm quite a strong advocate against spacer mesh, its heavy, expensive and cheese graters my shoulders when I'm not wearing a shirt.

Hey ASCII I've seen your other comment (and 100% recommend LibreCAD!), I tried to make a PDF of it for this vid but realised im going to have to explicitly label all the dimensions because they can't just be measured like in CAD on PDF. That means it's gonna take a bit of time but I'll 100% make sure it's up as a pdf or image file for the next video :)

What kind of sewing foot you're using at 15:51 and why?

Its a walking foot attachment (I talk about it in part I) it makes sewing stretch fabrics easier as pulls the fabric from the top and bottom.
