2:47 *"Wait for it to cool before checking"* - this is great advice. I know it sounds like common sense, and I guess it should be. I remember when I was sealing an ampoule that had some very mild acid inside (and a solvent I think), I thought I sealed it, but then I did a quick flip upside down then back to right side up, and it wasn't sealed, and the neck was hot enough to cause some of the contents to vaporize, which made a small amount of the contents shoot out of the top of the ampoule... and right into my face. Yep, lesson learned. It didn't hurt, and I washed it off quickly. But it was one of those sobering moments to not let your guard down when doing chemistry (meaning don't take off your safety glasses), and use your common sense.

How do you open it after sealing it?

Crack it with clamp or something similar

I have an issue that keeps bothering me: I want to make some essential oil sample seal in 1ml amber vials. However since the glass vial is so small and essential oil highly flammable, using high heat to seal off the vial seems dangerous. Any suggestion on this? Thx

As you seal the vial, dip it in a mineral oil and or water to disperse the heat. It sounds hard, but using a slightly larger vial and this would work

You should really use a hho torch for sealing. It is oerfect. A cleam super high heat flame. One can be built for super cheap. I bought a chinese one and its served me well. The power switch wemt out at one point. A five dollar fix

Apply vacuum to the tube for easy sealing. You can use a foodsaver even

I had an ampoule explode on me used a hho torch with near 4,000°f flame It was pretty intense. Super loud. But something really interesting happened. Well a couple things. See i was sorta don this on purpose. Not the exploding but make it “rumble “ inside. The rumble is what first occurs when heating seals ampoules. Then it goes calm…. Them it flashing to steam amd expands like a tiny bit larger than original size. Just enough to cause a massive explosion that seemed like it vaporized half the ampoule amd its contents. Luckily in was holding it in my hand while i applied the heat. Otherwise it could have been dangerous. I was wearing a steam proof ove glove. Super great and way cheaper than official lab stuff. I also had on a couple pairs of eye pro. Anyways heres thr cool part. Electrets. The piezo quartz effect. …..and applying massive pressure whilst sealed in a boro tube fulled submerged in distilled water. There was three small quartz crystals. After the boom i saw one of the quartz crystals and it was glowing a light amber color. Shaken but still stirring with curiosity i picked the lil guy up but i was a bit twitchy perhaps amd the crystal wet and i dropped it.. as it fell it struck my knee bouncing to the floor; however when it bounced an unexpected/incredible thing occurred. A rainbow halo of light…ill say , emerged in a single burst, extending to approx 4.5in in diameter, hung in the aether* for a moment before disappointing. *yes in the æther. id be happy to help you see the light. Einstein admitted later that to even attempt to consider a system devoid of ether is is and would be utterly impossible. This can be found in a little known talk he gave as he tried to reverse his wrong however it was too late and the damage was done. Einstien would end up dyïng, never able to purge this wretched skeleton from his closet.
