This is really cool! You've inspired me to make one and it's printing right now. Here are a couple things I did in Fusion 360 that helped. 1) Use parameters. This way you can change things much easier. I set parameters for cube height, tolerance, number of cubes, and chamfer amount. So once I got all the single cubes ready, I made the tolerance a large value like 5 mm which made it much easier to select the faces I wanted to extrude. Then at the end, make the tolerance parameter 0.25 mm and it changes the whole model. Same thing with the chamfers, can change them all at once to see how things look instead of having to go into each chamfer feature in the timeline. 2) When doing the chamfers, I would do the chamfer command and then select the whole body. This would select all the edges, so then I just had to de-select the inside edges. This was much quicker as you are basically chamfering more edges than you aren't.

Next level tactics chamfer the original cube and duplicate it when you extrude all inner edges will flaten away and outer edges will stay chamfered

Great thing to spend time on. Just some little time savers: - If possible (and for this design it's easy) you should pattern faces and not bodies. Fusion 360 will not slow down that fast if you get more and more bodies. - After you extrude / combined your puzzle part you could move the body into a component. It's not only a good thing to follow Rule #1, IMHO the browser window is more structured during the design process and if you switch on Inspect -> Component Color Cycling Tool (Shift N) you get your coloring for free. Another good thing is, that you can isolate / unisolate components if you want to get a detailed view for a dedicated puzzle part - You don't have to select the lines for the chamfer feature manually. You can filter the edges by disabling "Select -> Selection Filters -> Select All" and by enabling "Select -> Selection Filters -> Body Edges" and "Select -> Selection Filters -> Select Through" - You don't have to export all the bodies / components separately . You can right click the root entry in your browser, choose "Save as STL" and choose as "Structure" "One File Per Body".

I really would like to see a review and unboxing of the Dremel 3d printer because in my country we can barely get students computers at the moment (apparently everyone wants their child to receive a free computer if they're going to school, which wastes a lot of the money they could save for better things) and it would be cool if our school had a 3d printer that is available for everyone. If you upload the video, hopefully in the future (probably when I graduate and when things get a bit better in our country) I'm hoping to buy a 3d printer and donate it to my school so it would really help me buy an efficient 3d printer suitable for schools.

Dude, if you save it in one save like you will do with a lot of bodies that you want in one stl file you can check the "file per body" option and it save it in one file per one body in one click. If you don't understand me you can write that and I take some screenshots. It can save you a lot of time. If you read this and use this please write down below.

Just a thought, but wouldn’t it be faster to design the full cube, cut it with a grid so that you get a lattice with no clearance? This way you can make joining them much faster with boolean unions, and then you can get clearance in your slicer by shrinking the parts a little
@make.anything
@make.anything 6 жыл бұрын
Scaling down parts will only decrease clearance. Simplify3D has the option to have a horizontal offset, but that's just a hassle
