If you do a stay-stitch before you hem the bottom piece, then clip the curves, it'll make a much smoother hem. Stay-stitch simply means to sew a straight stitch near the edge that you will clip UP TO, but not over.

If you want to get piece to go over helmet make the hood part alot bigger.. I made a coverup for my helmet few years ago with sweatshirt fabric, i still use it to this day!! I measured my helmet biggest point which was middle going around helmet and then when I was making pattern I divided that number in half because my pattern was on fold, that number was for bottom of hood that you sew to neckline whatever size you want (mine was one you put on first then put on helmet and pull over helmet.. it is for riding ATV in winter) .. then measure the top of helmet to back of helmet and make sure your pattern is about 2 inches longer for sewing allowance and comfort, that measure is for the hood part.. and if you want drawstring add little bit more , I personally loved my drawstring one better then one I made without. Good luck sewing and hopefully I made scents..💗

Alright I’m back with an update, I made it true to size and then made each cut slightly bigger than the pattern. It was able to fit over my helmet!

I literally just made this item. I printed the item true to size. When I went to cut the fabric, I made it slightly bigger than the pattern I printed out. It went over my helmet!

Hey! Do you (or anyone here) have any suggestions for getting a good hem along the bottom part? I am using fleece and can’t seem to get it to curve well enough so it’s all bunched up and all over the place. I guess I could leave it as the raw zig zag or even the cut but I know the hem will make it look SO much better.
