I actually take that shot a lot. I don't make it near as often as I'd like to, but I was shown that shot some time back by one of the regular hustlers where I shoot lol. They shoot a lot of bank pool there. There are several multiple rail banks that can get you out of a pickle if you can nail them. As many times as I've attempted this one, though...probably about a 30% success rate, at my current level. The problem is in not knowing the amount of English, equal to the amount of speed, equal to the size of the angle. Not easy lol

I’ve been playing pool for nearly 50 years and this video popped up on my feed. You are never to old to learn something new. I really enjoyed watching this video, especially the first bank that you made, even on a bad deflection hit. That’s a lesson right there. Even a miss hit made. The reason you made it was because you did everything 99% correctly. Can’t wait to watch more of your videos.

all i see in the comments are douchey billiards players that are too prideful to accept the fact that this guy gave a detailed, helpful tutorial video and is obviously a great player at a young age. who cares about the wide pockets it's not like he could pull a table out of his ass to give a tutorial video on a 12 ft. this kid is probably younger than me and could most definitely school me in billiards. thanks for the helpful video man!

Yeah who cares about wide pockets, it only enables you to to pot balls that usually wouldn’t go in, thus giving you false pretences that your playing shots correctly . Pool and snooker is all about how you deliver the cue when playing your shot, and just by watching this guys cue action, and pre shot routine, he’s certainly not technically solid. All that being said, agree, he speaks well and explains the subject of side well. Keep it up mate.

Jay. You don't play pool, do you? Dr. Cue and Tor both give better instruction on banks. I do credit this kid for trying and being enthusiastic. He seems to enjoy it, has some followers and may help a beginner, but that's it. Let's not forget. Ronnie was winning titles by this kids age. THAT is great, not making a video called "how to make banks 99% of the time" and then making your first bank off the cue ball. P.S. As you may have heard, size does matter. You don't get better by playing on slutty pockets.

Thanks for sharing. Learned a new shot! One correction. The harder you hit a ball, the less spin affects a ball, not more. The softer you hit an object ball with spin, the more it will throw the ball, not less. Easy to test: line up a shot diamond to diamond with one width of English. Shoot it softly, then shoot the same shot again hard. You will see that the object ball is thrown more with softer English. In the video, you had to hit it hard to make sure the ball had enough speed to return to the pocket, and still had some spin on it. That's very different than it "spinning more because you hit it hard." You can also test it by setting up a perfectly straight shot. Use 1/2 width of English and hit it hard. You'll see the object ball diverts very little vs. if you hit it softer, the object ball is thrown more. Just trying to correct a misstatement.

Well said Ken. When the nine gets to to the second rail the spin, looking from the brown ball side, has become LEFT spin, further helping the cause, and then goes back to RIGHT spin on the final rail, spinning even more as it slows down, just as you said.

Dan I sort of fit in both categories. I Love and Hate him. I like his beginner skills but if you watch from about 3 min. the to 4 min. mark he says when you shoot fast the ball goes where it is supposed to but if you shoot slow it goes wide. He gives the position to Shoot for but then shoots way wide and yeah it goes wide. Only a beginner would not see this right off. I have been playing pool for over 60 years and I am Damn Good but I saw this deception right off. He will be real good when he can put the cue ball on the rack spot and an object ball at the rail at the Far end against the diamond 90 degrees away and cut the ball into either corner pocket OR put an object ball an inch off the Rail and about 6 to 8 inches away from the side pocket then cut it in the side. That is Me. I am that good, also with a good rack I can call the Eight on the break and make it 7 out of 10 times and if I happen to miss you will be $hitting your pants because it barely missed and is dangerously close to the pocket. Your skill then becomes finishing up and winning by either player. I once played with Steven Mizerak in Alabama. I beat the fat fart only once. That was in around 73 or 74. It has been a few decades now and I forget the exact year I was visiting relatives there. I live in The only Nation within this Nation, TEXAS. I grew up playing pool in the bars on the NE side of Houston bars off Hwy 90, an area where you had to be extremely skilled at BARELY winning or loose your life.

Great video. I was always using the diamonds and finding half the angle for banks. That system worked with really simple ones but bank shots that require you to cut the ball a decent amount to get to the aiming point didn't work. So I would just eyeball those ones and this angle of reflection technique makes a lot of sense. I was watching a video of Efren Reye's final shot in his farewell tour. I believe those cross cut bank shots are actually influenced more by the spin transferred to the object ball by where the cue ball hits the object ball regardless of what spin you put on the cue ball itself. Either way, thank you for the video.

Nice vid, One thing to remember: as the friction of white ball and object ball is low (they're very smooth, guys!) it takes a lot more spin on the white to transfer sufficient to the object ball to do that than if you simply aimed the white to bank on its own (remember also that you chalk the tip of your cue to INCREASE the friction between tip and white ball so spin shots take - you obviously can't do that between white and object ball).

All the bashing the wide pockets comments are dumb, you guys are all missing the point. AND if you can do better, then where are your videos? The wide pockets don't matter, he's explaining how to line up the bank - the technique he's teaching is what matters, how you apply it is all on you. It leaves at the same angle if hit very light, because it is not compacting the cushion. The harder you hit it, the more it compacts the cushion. The cushion wants to throw back ball at 90 degrees to the cushion, so that the harder you hit the ball, the more it wants to do this, which is why the harder you hit it, the more it flattens out leaving the rail. This is very clear in the beginning of the video. You say they are coming off equal, but clearly they are not. Only the soft shot is coming off equal. It is not coming off wider, it is coming off on an equal angle. Your first shots are coming off flatter, not equal like you say, because you hit the ball firmer. Whenever you hit it with any kind of firmness, you are compacting the cushion, hence flattening the angle off the rail. Just my opinion.

When I first started trying to take pool seriously and learn to play I spent a long time trying to avoid bank shots and would instead hit ridiculous cut shots and could eventually hit shots that almost looked like the defied physics. On the other side of that my usual playing partner would avoid cut shots at all costs but learned to hit bank shots without even thinking about it. Then one day we both decided we needed to round out our games and that we both had something we could teach the other and we started playing games with only bank shots or only cut shots and one would help the other learn what worked for them.

Well 3:48 was missed because you moved the start point of the object ball more to the right as we looked but contacted the cushion/rail right by the same point as previous banks. Yes, speed does play a role but most of that miss was because your angles were way off (3:14 and 3:47 show the object ball on the rail at almost exactly the same point).

Great vid man, thanks. One question, if you transfer right spin to the OB. I understand how that shortens the angle off the first rail, but, that same spin direction should've thrown the OB to the running direction off the 2nd rail? Pushing toward the corner area? How is it that it came back the opposite direction? Is it that the momentum and contact of the rail reverses the spin because it's it's going on the opposite direction from the spin? And the friction at the rail grabs the ball, and the momentum/friction reverses the spin? It's the only thing I can think of? The second rail hit, wasn't as strong of an angle, and less momentum, so it was able to keep the "left spin" it received from the 1st rail, and reverse course back to the 1st rail, now having running English to go into the side pocket? I would love feed back. Lol, maybe I'm way off here.

Great vids and advice! I do have a suggestion though. It seems you always have the camera on the opposite side of the room. And in a lot of your videos you're talking about spin directions, left, right, etc. Well everything is backwards from the viewers view. It can be a bit confusing. It would be much better if we could see everything from your side. (In first person view).

Softer stroke imparts more English. Shooting hard into the rail closes the angle of the bank. Shooting softly does not open the angle as implied. It creates much more accuracy. This means that if you need to shoot hard to make your bank angle correctly then your eye is incorrectly trained. 3 ways to close an angle on a bank: 1. Shoot hard (rail sink) 2. Hold up English (inside) 3. Draw (Bottom English, technically draw is not accurately called “English) Using a combination of two or more techniques increases the result. First, learn to shoot banks accurately with a soft stroke. If you need to shoot more firmly into a bank but don’t want to close/tighten the angle of rebound then use either “follow” (top English) or slight running/outside English. Vary your speed and distance from center-ball until you learn the nuances. Those pocket you’ve got there are exceedingly forgiving.

Topspin and draw absolutely will put the opposite spin on the object ball and affect the angle it comes off the rail. Draw on the cueball >> topspin on the object ball >> wider angle. Topspin on the cueball >> draw on the object ball >> shallower angle. Otherwise, great video!

I have checked with other professionals and the only person that comes close to it is florian the venom, and reyes. Both are very much the top of their own class and I think this may be a great idea for the best way to go about taking a shot as the 3 of you are on a level that is not easy to get to. I'm 44 and been playing since I was 8! Started with 8 ball for the first 5 years and I have played 9ball ever since. Sure I have. Did you read my comment and what I responded to? Efren Reyes doesn't use magic all the time, because magic is higher risk than doing it simple. You only use advanced shots when it is required and good players avoid having to do it. You play to win, not to look cool. Players who plays to look cool, doesn't win very often.

Hi DUPREE, I have a question win it comes to making double kiss shots, it's a shot that I don't see but it's there, and it's a lot of shots, good pool players in real like that's where they make magic, they don't like to call ever shot, because it's not a perfect game, and it's magic, can you make a segment on the double kiss shots, thank you from Gary Kuruz.

3:50 your incoming angle isn't the same as the outgoing angle toward the pocket. I mean the principle stands, but the throw isn't as drastic as you make it out to be.

Can you make a video on running balls along the rail? Both with the white ball straight-on and at an angle.

If you are shooting down the rail, OB near or on the rail, use english on the CB on the rail side; ie, if on right hand rail heading for the corner, use right hand english to 'keep the OB drawing back into the rail.

I'm playing pool for many years and I've never thought about the double bank with the reverse spin on the object ball. Never knew the object ball could take spin! Thanks for bringing that to our attention!

Would it be possible for you to fix a GoPro or something above the table so we get a 2 dimensional view of what you are saying. I think a GoPro may be a savy investment. 🤔 😎

The bank shots. Theoretically, angle in angle out. This has many variables that causes angle in to not equal angle out. Cushions, ball set, cloth, etc. The safest bet is to always add about a half ball to a full ball to the shot for these variables. This is a rather old video, but I still think this needs to be addressed. I'm actually writing a book currently and I'm showing in my book as well as my students not to over complicate the game. A lot of terms thrown around that makes pool sound intimidating, when it's not. Keep in mind pool is super easy. You complicate it by thinking too hard or trying to make a puddle seem like the ocean. Keep shooting.

So amazing! Well done! There's so much more to being a great pole player than I ever thought. Always thought chance, luck, and a little bit of skill were all you needed. But there's a lot of science and math involved--geometry, trigonometry, and physics, for example. Thanks for opening my eyes to how sophisticated the game can be.

Thanks for all your videos and inspiring play. As a relative newbie to spin, I find your left/right terminology confusing. When you say left spin on que it looks as if you are hitting it on left side such that it actually causes que to spin clockwise to the right. Is that a correct assessment?
@mamu3120
@mamu3120 5 жыл бұрын
Clockwise is clockwise (?) I dont get what you mean by to the right. Hitting the cue ball on the left puts clockwise spin. Hitting the cue ball on the right puts counter clockwise spin. Both clockwise and counter clockwise are both moving right at some points on the circle and left at others
@inspired4more
@inspired4more 4 жыл бұрын
Pretty much. Whatever spin is on the cue will transfer opposite on the object ball. So left english causes the ball to spin clockwise (right), which causes the object ball to spin counterclockwise (left).
