How To Make Base Cabinets For Miter Saw Station

In today's video I show my process for building the base cabinets of my new miter saw station. This was accomplished by breaking down 11 sheets of plywood(7 being 3/4" and 4 being 1/4") using my track saw and a mobile base large enough to break down the full sheets.
To assemble the cabinet I used pocket holes which is a fast and strong method of cabinet joinery. For the middle cabinet stretchers I offset the pocket holes so they can be installed without running into the screws from the left and right cabinet stretchers.
The top is made up of two pieces of 3/4" plywood to give me a thick 1.5" top for both cabinets. I glued the pieces together and used a few brad nails to hold the panel in place while the glue dried.
Finally I installed the drawer slides using pre-made shims starting with a 1/4" shim on the bottom drawer and then a 3/4" shim between the remaining drawers.
Stay tuned for part 2 where I make veneered drawer fronts and install solid wood edge-banding around the tops.

nice. you can make the boxes (the toe-kick base) separate from the cabinets and level the boxes first... then simply attach the cabinets and affix them to the wall with a nailer. Still great work

Thing about cabinet making is there's a million ways to do it. I chose this route because it allows me to move my cabinets and level them anywhere in the shop. I have a habit of rearranging stuff too often lol. Thanks

Love this and all your videos. I am not a fan of the big, deep drawers for myself but look forward to see how you use them. The cabinets look fantastic. Very curious what brand plywood you used. Price at this point is irrelevant and I just pay and the project is usually still worth it but the brands annoy me. Finding a high quality but not the top and most expensive is what I try to find.

I have a plywood dealer near me and this plywood(They just called it imported ply but it's from Vietnam and China) was filled with voids and the faces were super thin. Terrible stuff but it was literally all I could get. It was $65 a sheet for 3/4 an I think $20-$24 for 1/4" (I don't recall the exact price).

@@Simplecove Baltic birch from my nearby supplier is $145 for 5x5 of 3/4 or $283 for a 4x8 3/4. That’s up from 96 and 146 a couple months ago. I’m okay using cheap stuff but I hope it won’t be too many years before the good stuff slowly comes down.
