ive made this same rope but using 2 crochet hooks and just having them for pulling the strands through ! its a favorite of mine for anything that needs rope like a tie on a garment or a drawstring bag, i never considered making it out of anything thicker than some light yarns O: looks beautiful !

Lucet cords are my favourite way to make cord when I need a drawstring or similar (instead of a simple chain or an icord for example), they're so relaxing to make when you get into the motion, I'll try this project for sure (as soon as I get back to my parents where there is a glue gun)
