I'm on an Osborne binge; as another commenter said you are a great teacher. Love that you not only explain the what, but also the why! Definitely going to use more of those refine tools, didn't ever really get to get deep into affinity so this was much needed!

Most of the things you do here, can be easily done in the color page on resolve and fusion for the text, then just export the image. For more advanced things thought, Affinity is a good Photoshop alternative.

Good workflow to make a thumbnail. I also work on a HD resolution image even if the thumbnail is smaller when you export it. Ryan, you might want to improve some quality of the image by having a larger resolution image than the canvas if you think you want to stretched it out. That way you won't strechted the pixel, which will result of a "blur". Good point of rasterizing the imported image.This is a specific feature of Affinity, imported photos are only references, and any changes outside Affinity will be also pushed to Affinity. Rasterizing it "makes" a copy of the image inside the project. For exposure, you don't need to go to Develop Persona, add an Exposure Layer instead. Develop Persona is only for RAW images, and is destructive. Exposure Layer is a dynamic filter and you can change the value any time. It is non destructive. Except for Camera Lenses, all tools from Develop Persona can be added as layers in photo persona and are dynamic, and non destructive! For the gradient you can use a rectangle too, with a black-white gradient and soft light fusion layer. Still non destructive. You don't need to add an extra mask in the background.. the mask is already the small thumbnail left to the layer! This is specific to Affinity, each layer has its own mask. To make you gradient just click on that thumbnails and draw. Thanks !

Some amazing tips here Olivier! Thank you so much for taking the time to share all of this. If you’re coming from photoshop, a lot of this will be helpful to you too.

Hey @@RyanOsborneUK ! I'm learning Resolve, Affinity and Darktable (making my own video tutorial too). I couldn't resist giving you some tips I also learned :) I'm coming more from Lightroom that Photoshop, but I know it a bit. I'm always interested to see how other creators deals with their problem, even if it's on other applications. It gives me ideas to try myself.
@RyanOsborneUK2 жыл бұрын
@@olivierparlephoto I was going to check out darktable as an alternative! How do you find it? I’ve been using luminar but it’s fairly basic (fine for my needs though)
@olivierparlephoto2 жыл бұрын
@@RyanOsborneUK I'm discovering / using Darktable for now a year (I shot plenty of videos but in french ;) ). For beginners, Darktable is tough as the interface and wording are quite different. The approach is way more granular and scientific, the goal is to expose all possible button and sliders, giving you full control. No automation be default, no introduction in the program. What you can do in Luminar with one slider, woud require a lot of work in Darktable. If you can master that, it's a great tool to dive in. You can have a try, it's free! If you feel lost or overwhelmed, let me know.
@RyanOsborneUK2 жыл бұрын
@@olivierparlephoto Really appreciate that! Yes the ease of use with Luminar is what really keeps me with it. Though it probably doesn’t have some of the finer controls that darktable does
