I think we are missing the point here though. Fusion is a compositing software, not a motion graphics tool. Motion graphics is a bit of an afterthought, hence the limitations. After Effects, on the other hand, was born (and definitely still is) a motion graphics software, not a compositing one. Compositing just happens to be there after Adobe decided (back in the days) to make it closer to Photoshop (which you can definitely use for compositing stills). That makes the compositing side of After Effects kind of a nice addition. It works well until you need to comp at a professional level. That's where the likes of Nuke and Fusion come into place, where the former is the superior choice within the majority of the big VFX studios. Fusion is also used in VFX studios, but less than Nuke. That said, Fusion main purpose is pure compositing and VFX. Definitely not motion graphics. Color Grading, Compositing, VFX: that's DaVinci Resolve and Fusion bread and butter (as a matter of fact, Color Grading and Color Correction is where DaVinci is the undisputed king). Also, Fusion Studio (which is the standalone version) is even better than Fusion embedded in DaVinci, for various reasons. After Effects main purpose is motion graphics, definitely not professional compositing. So, stick to After Effects when it comes to motion graphics, but stay away from it if you are serious about compositing and VFX.

I hear you... fusion is king for compositing. But to say it's "not a motion graphics tool" isn't actually right... there's lots of nodes in fusion that have no compositing use at all. Blackmagic has also called it a motion graphics tool repeatedly. Visit their website. They use the term 'motion graphics' to describe fusion more than they do "compositing'. A quick word search will prove this. It's clearly for both. The point of my video is that Blackmagic have more work to do on fusion, if their aim is to outcompete Adobe.
@MauroSanna26 минут бұрын
@@RyanOsborneUK I would say Nuke is king for compositing, and Fusion comes right behind it. Then the price vs performance and quality it's obviously a huge win for the Blackmagic piece of software. Regarding Fusion being for both, I kindly disagree. Blackmagic is marketing DaVinci Resolve as an all in one package, including motion graphics, with Fusion. They refer to the Fusion page that lives inside DaVinci. Basically you don't need to open multiple software (like you would with Adobe), but you can comfortably stay in DaVinci and do it all. The combination of all the tools you get inside DaVinci + Fusion, in Blackmagic Design mind, gives you that motion graphics capability (which is no slouch, don't get me wrong). I was using Fusion way before Blackmagic Design bought it, when it was Eyeon Fusion. In fact, even earlier when it came in bundle with Alias Wavefront Maya and it was called Maya Fusion. It has always been a VFX compositing tool. Motion graphics wasn't its thing, it's never been in the first place. Nowadays yes, it does have many tools that look like they have no use in compositing, but those don't make Fusion a motion graphics software (I mean as its main goal). Regarding Blackmagic wanting to outcompete Adobe, I don't believe they are even thinking about that either. They earn their money from the hardware mainly. They are already eating Adobe Premiere's lunch, and largely outperformed that in every possible way. The dynamic link in the Adobe Suite isn't exactly stable, to put it mildly (in fact is a bit of a chore, unreliable and buggy). It's cool when it works. The DaVinci Resolve Studio interoperability system, on the other hand, just works (jumping from one page to the other, Edit, Color, Fusion etc etc). Is see your point, and I tend to agree with what you are saying. I just don't think that Blackmagic Design is actually relying on that motion graphics side too much.

Mmm...how do you get Resolve to automatically update the changes you've made in your .psd file? It ain't doing it for me, and I couldn't see from your video how you got it to do that. Do I need to restart Resolve? Okay. I answered my own question. Yes. I had to restart Resolve et voila! While I'm here, what's happened to you? Have you abandoned ship forever? Because that would be a real shame; your videos are great and I appreciate hearing the accent of a fellow Scot. Lanarkshire, by any chance?

Hard agree. I've been using Fusion for 3D comp and post work for a few years now and I would LOVE to be able to completely divorce myself from Adobe, but as you said there are some glaring issues with Fusion as an After Effects replacement. On the one hand I get it. Fusion in it's original design is closer to Nuke than After Effects, centered around compositing not motion graphics, but it's SOOOO CLOSE! With just a few tweaks and user experience changes it could have the best of both worlds and the industry would LOVE Blackmagic for it. So many people hate Adobe and would love a viable alternative, but nothing really can give you the full features needed. One thing I've thought is what if they open sourced Fusion so the community could just develop it themselves similar to blender. Since it's not their main money maker and is more about just convenience for their current user base, it seems like a win win.

In my opinion, you’ve made some assumptions about Blackmagic that might not fully reflect their approach. The key difference between Adobe and Blackmagic is that Blackmagic is run by filmmakers. DaVinci Resolve originated as a highly respected colour grading application designed specifically for the film and TV industry-an industry that thrives on specialists in areas such as motion graphics, audio, and more. Blackmagic has made incredible progress with Resolve in just three years, a pace that simply can’t be compared to Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro. Not everyone using Resolve is concerned with catering to KZbinrs-this demographic is still viewed with scepticism in many professional filmmaking circles. Spend time in any mainstream production facility, and you’ll see why. Blackmagic is just getting started with its all-in-one solution. As you correctly pointed out, their software complements their hardware business, and they’re releasing hardware at a rate that often outpaces the update cycles of competing software companies. When it comes to Resolve, don’t think like a KZbinr-think like a filmmaker. That’s when you’ll truly understand its potential!

nice, but actually works nothing like your description. For me all it did was make the text slowly grow to full size, and the only thing that changed when I told it to use a delay, was the early characters grew faster than the later characters. This does not "animate" word by word.
@MAGAMAN2 ай бұрын
If you animate anything in the shading panel, it will only be for the current layer, so if you want to add a drop shadow, stroke, etc, it will not be animated and will be in the wrong place. This is a massive over-site in this program.
