Watching all your bezel videos, gearing up for setting my first stone soon! How do you calculate what size bezel strip to use? Given that every stone is different and unique is there a tried and true approach to 'know'/determine what size bezel strip to go with? Thank you and very much looking forward to your bezel book! 🙏

Are you talking about height or length? 😃
@ilahroseminton Жыл бұрын
The height, thank you! 🙏@@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts Жыл бұрын
For a faceted stone, measure the entire height of the stone, culet to table, using a divider . That is how high it needs to be when you set it. Since you need some extra height to accommodate for sanding after fusing, etc. give yourself a few extra millimeters beyond the height of the actual stone. Remember, you can always take away at the end but you can’t put it back. 😃@@ilahroseminton

Thanks for showing how to make a bezel for a stone that has corners. I have been trying to make a bezel for a rectangular cubix that has a bend in the corners, and have been adviced to cut and file in each bend: so 8 bends done in 925 silver sheet of 1 mm thickness, for a 10x12 mm cubix always ended breaking. Didn't make sense!
@JewelryArts Жыл бұрын
When you are working in thick material, it helps to score the corners to be able to bend. You might be scoring too deep, hence the breaking. I use thinner material, 26 gauge, so scoring is unnecessary. :)

@@JewelryArts great tip, thanks for sharing. I will buy that gauge; it was handy so I used that one....should have give it a few rounds in the rolling mill.👌🏻👏🏻💖

I am so glad you enjoyed it! We use 26 gauge in either fine silver or 22k gold. :)

Why would you choose to solder your bezel wire at the top of your stone?
@JewelryArts2 жыл бұрын
I am sorry but I don’t understand the question? Could you elaborate?
@heathernichol3782 жыл бұрын
It's my understanding that you never solder your bezel on a corner or the top, always solder on the longer side of your bezel. From what I have always been told it gives you a better solder. I hope this makes more sense 😊
@JewelryArts2 жыл бұрын
@@heathernichol378 Ah, I see! My seam usually end up being on a longer side because I find it easier to shape the bezel that way, it wouldn't hurt anything for the seam to be there as far as the solder is concerned. When using thicker materials, you need to solder at corners because it is so difficult to bend there. Since I use 26 gauge bezels, it isn't a problem for me to bend my corners and since I usually fuse my bezels, it is much easier to have my seam on a longer side. What works better depends on your materials, to sum up. :)

PD: will try just bending with plyers 💯💟

@@JewelryArts yes I will! At least I got through bending 3 corners. Just annealed to see how I can make it to the last one and solder. But I have to thank you for sharing a simple, logical way to do customized bezels.💯💕Follow yoy in Instagram, didn't know your KZbin channel 🙄🤓😎, great I found you here 'cause it's what I use most.
